Sylvania 400w T16 mercury lamp
I believe these were used as a replacement for the 400w medium pressure MV lamps. Odly the case this came in was a mixture of mfg dates from September and December of the same year.

Very nice. The arc tube looks a little unusual, though. They're usually made from a clear quartz glass.

Thanks, this was very common with sylvania MV lamps. They almost look like stretch marks in the quartz. I have some 175 watters with the same look.

We haven't used them here so that's why I found it unusual.
There must be a purpose why they make them this way.

Ah I gotcha, I'm not actually sure why. Would be interesting to know. Possibly just the manufacturing process used?

I have a Sylvania T16 400w merc but it's later, like 1980s vintage.

If I remember the date codes on these were 117 and 120 so I'm assuming I got the mtg date correct. I know the sylvanias are pretty simple to date.
