what happened Wednesday, it was a crazy day!
I was on the other side of the parking lot working on a light with squirrel chewed wire..and hear a odd noise, went to go look and saw this! Glad I wasn't anywhere near that pole that's lit when the driver ran into the city power pole

Wow! Good thing you weren't in the wrong placeat the wrong time! Do you know what light was on that tapered elliptical?
A_lights   [Feb 15, 2014 at 01:58 AM]
Just a cooper OVX
streetlight98   [Feb 15, 2014 at 02:41 AM]
ahh okay. Was the driver okay?
A_lights   [Feb 15, 2014 at 02:52 AM]
Yeah I think so!

Ahh well that's good! I find it odd how Cooper lights slip off their mast arms so easily yet they all have four bolt fitters. The GE fixtures here never seem to let go. Maybe the cooper slipfitters just break inside the fixture? I've seen OVZs on poles that weren't even it hit become loose and gradually tilt sideways lol. They never fell though. In face, i know of one that's still like that. I reported it twice but i guess NGrid doesn't care about it falling through someone's windshield... Usually they end up replacing the lights that loosen like that here so it makes me wonder if they were tightend too much and broke but usually the aluminum mast arms will deform instead of the slipfitter failing...

I wonder what fixture they'll put in its place.

I'll let you know next time I'm here (in about 2 months unless someone else gets sent)

Yup, here when thick concrete poles with aluminum e arms are hit, the pole usually isn't damaged, but the jolt must be so rattling that OVX's often fall off, but half the time the e arm also snaps off at its base plate!

Do you notice it with AEL lights? I swear when lights loosen on the mast arm or fall off completely, it's amost always a cooper! And they all have 4-bolt fitters so I don't know why that is...

Cooper's with 4 bolt fitters ? I have yet to see on. I know the AEL 25's and 125 have them.
streetlight98   [Feb 16, 2014 at 11:06 PM]
All cooper lights have 4 bolt fitters don't they?
HPSM250R2   [Feb 16, 2014 at 11:18 PM]
I just checked the OVZ, OVF, and OVL on the Cooper website. Doesn't even look like 4 bolt is an option anymore.
streetlight98   [Feb 16, 2014 at 11:48 PM]
hmm my OVC has a 4-bolt fitter. I guess they changed that? So the Coopers have the leveling steps like AELs and GEs?
HPSM250R2   [Feb 17, 2014 at 12:21 AM]
Yes it seems like all newer Cooper cobraheads have the leveling steps. Except maybe the OVL. I think the OVL might have a 4 bolt mounting. It doesn't seem to say on their website.
Mike, look in my gallery. My OVH, OVZ, and OVY all have the leveling steps.
streetlight98   [Feb 17, 2014 at 12:27 AM]
Ahh yeah. Hmm. The Coopers are always leveled perfectly yet the M-250R2s here seem to always be angled up a little. I've noticed pics of 115s aimed way up too. I guess Cooper uses a different set up with the leveling steps? For some reason the Coopers don't seem to hold onto the mast arms as well as other lights though. Neutral
HPSM250R2   [Feb 17, 2014 at 12:28 AM]
Yeah I have seen streetlights rotate to the side a few times before. And I think they were all OVZ's Rolling Eyes
streetlight98   [Feb 17, 2014 at 12:58 AM]
Yep OVZs here too. I've seen one M-250R2 do that but i swear it was never installed right from day one. after a car hit it, i noticed it was aimed down more that it was (i think it was installed on the very edge of a leveling step and the car hitting the pole caused the arm to slip off onto the next leveling step. Not loose enough to fall off, but loose enough for the fixture to rotate. It doesn't work either. I'm guessing rain got in and shorted the ballast. I reported it a couple times a few years bck with no action taken by NGrid. I might try again...
