Eww I'm surprised they gave this to you. Yeah don't use this until you replace the cap. Shocked

Oh wow! are HID capacitors expensive and I am glad the ignitor is still good as that is $60 by Itself
Does a new capacitor have to be exactly 12MFD? As I found a 11MFD/400VAC one for S12 where the "Proper" 12MFD/330VAC one is about $35 and can I use a motor start capacitor or a run capacitor?

Odd to see a dry cap leak like that! They're supposed to fail open LOL.

LampLover84: In a worst case situation, using a SLIGHTLY lower value won't harm the ballast, but NEVER higher! I've seen an unusual 400W M59 ballast with a 18uF cap replaced by a 24uF one, the ballast entirely cooked! Be aware though that using a lower value capacitor will very likely dimnish the ballast's power output.

The "uf" or "MFD" rating has to be exactly the same and the "VAC" or "V" rating has to be equal or greater than the cap it's replacing. If the cap here is 12uf 330VAC, this capacitor will work ("uf" and "MFD" are the same thing)

Edit; i didn't see Vince's post. Ahh i didn't know you could use a lower one. I'm guessing it could also affect the lamp's life too.

These failure is not confined to computer's motherboard Shocked

Thanks Mike I did not know that uf and MFD mean the same thing
