Colored Lines!!!
This is something I have never seen before...
There's an area where they are upgrading the power lines from 45kv to 115kv (see LilCinnamon's comments under [url=http://www.galleryoflights.org/mb/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-22265] [b] this pic [/b] [/url] for more details)

The lines you see here aren't the 115kv - those are up at the top of the poles (and are just the normal silver). But take a look at these lower-down ones, and note that they are actually different colors! Blue, Red, Yellow, Green...

Those are the colored pulling lines to string the new conductors along the poles.

So they run hundreds of feet of pulling line then use that to pull the actual conductor lines with?

Yes, it's a very strong braided rope used to pull the conductors.
