Ever ready flashlight
I bought this around the turn of the century purely to have a reliable flashlight around. You know how it goes: You tell someone you like lighting, so people give you cheap flashlights they got for some promotional give-away. Well, this thing uses a 6V lantern battery which lasts a long time....it's heavy, it's bright, it's still got its original incandescent lamp but it has never let me down even after it was dropped (which kills almost every other flashlight). Oh, and it's supposedly waterproof and floats, too.

My friend has one of these fitted with a high-power LED lamp (his dad's a firefighter and it's his old flashlight) and that sucker's beam can reach something a quarter mile away! Yeah they're waterproof and do float. We stuck my friend's light in the pool and it had a very interesting effect lol.

I finally fitted this with a LED retrofit lamp and it looks pretty good.

Ah cool. Did you use the same wattage LED for a super-bright flashlight or use the same light output for battery conservation (or somewhere in between)?
