Westinghouse 250w Corstar
I recently aquired this lot of 250w lamps. I've never seen these in 250w, only 150w 100v and 400w. Would have been happy with 2 but the seller was selling as a lot so it was all or none. I gave a bit more than I would have liked but seeing the rarity of these it was well worth it.

Nice find!! Cool
streetlight98   [Aug 03, 2015 at 08:40 AM]
Nice! Yeah my question is the same as Andy's. Do these look different when lit?
gmercury2000   [Aug 03, 2015 at 02:39 PM]
There's not really any difference in the light when lit. Still the ugly orange hps glow. Lol
Solanaceae   [Aug 03, 2015 at 08:13 PM]
But with a tinge of rarity. Laughing
gmercury2000   [Aug 03, 2015 at 08:40 PM]
True, that's why I will allow them into my home. Lol

HPS beats LEDisease though.
gmercury2000   [Aug 03, 2015 at 09:40 PM]
Eh, the one plus for me with led is the lack of maintenence that we have to perform. It's less work and seeing the quality of hid lamps now I would rather see led. There's no lumen loss over the life and we're not out to the same light every 6 months to replace a crappy lamp. But over all led will never beat the classic hid look.
streetlight98   [Aug 03, 2015 at 09:45 PM]
LEDs do dim out, contrary to popular belief, though the newer ones are not as bad as the early ones.
gmercury2000   [Aug 03, 2015 at 10:09 PM]
Yeah, I should have said that they don't dim out as fast or quite as extreme as hid.
streetlight98   [Aug 03, 2015 at 11:51 PM]
Ah yeah PSMH and HPS maintain pretty good lumens. Probe start MH and MV dim the most. The MH lamps my workplace uses in the lowbays and highbays dim REALLU badly. I don't know the brand, but they're ED-shaped lamps, so they're not Sylvania. I'm thinking GE since they use a lot of GE fluorescents, but they've started using T8LED retrofit tubes, which are Philips .
gmercury2000   [Aug 03, 2015 at 11:53 PM]
Ge's are by far the worst when it comes to mh. They're dim right out of the box compared to philips and Sylvania.

I wouldn't mind trading for one?
Solanaceae   [Aug 05, 2015 at 02:16 AM]
Same here. Smile Keep in mind you're not as big of a fan of :hps: Laughing
gmercury2000   [Aug 05, 2015 at 04:35 AM]
Well not a fan of the color. But I must say these make a nice display piece.
streetlight98   [Aug 05, 2015 at 08:50 AM]
What's the color like? It's not like other HPS lamps?
gmercury2000   [Aug 05, 2015 at 09:02 AM]
No, it's the same color as standard hps. What I meant by my last comment was I don't care for the orange of hps in general. These have the same but they make nice display pieces.
streetlight98   [Aug 05, 2015 at 08:15 PM]
Ah I see. What's the difference between this and a conventional ceramic arc tube HPS? (aside from the arc tube)
gmercury2000   [Aug 05, 2015 at 08:31 PM]
Don't hold me to this as I'm not 100% positive but I think the basis behind this was improved efficiency but the added cost to produce was not justified by the small difference it made, and with the improvements in other technology made them not cost efficient to make. I think I read on here somewhere that westinghouse was the only company to expirment with this technology for a couple years which is what makes them so sought after. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
streetlight98   [Aug 06, 2015 at 08:47 AM]
Ah I see. Thanks for the information. So these are slightly brighter and maybe slightly better CRI than conventional HPS lamps?
gmercury2000   [Aug 06, 2015 at 09:07 AM]
I think they were when they were first produced, they're probably very close to what is produced now.
