Dead in two hours....
This is a FamilyMaid brand bulb sold in dollar stores around here in Southern California. They are junk! This bulb began blackening as soon as I lit it, and I left it on. After two hours there was a bright white spot in the filament where it melted and turned into an argon discharge lamp. Scary!

Quality product here... XD

I've had a clear chinese Sunbeam lamp burning out in 200 hours... The lamp was first completely clean, and when I removed it the neck was covered with a yellowish-white smoke thing. I also recently relamped one of the basement's fixtures. The Indonesian Philips Duramax bulb inside lasted about 700 hours... not as bad but I had longer-lasting lamps before LOL.

I dropped a clear 60w rough service lamp on the tile floor in my basement. It didn't crack, but when i lit it, it was super bright and this white smoke like stuff filled the bulb and it died. The coating of the cream-colored smoke was so even, you'd think the lamp was frosted. Shocked This happened and it blew the fuse in my traffic signal. I have since replaced the fuse. (this incedent happend over the summer.)

Mike it sounds like the bulb's filament got tangled and the stem cracked or broke when it was dropped. No wonder it burned brightly, the filament was shorted.

It was a hard fall too. about a 3 foot drop the the ground on a ceramic tile floor and not a crack! I was expecting the filament to get broken, but not frost the lamp. Shocked Laughing

Looks like air have been leaked into the bulb.
We have flea market LUXTEN and FLASH incandescent lamps. I have experience with LUXTEN incandescent lamps in my hostel:
The former ones had only one fuse and after several months to weeks, they flashed bright white light, made a loud BOOM, and tripped the main breaker. Several of them ejected from their bases like a rocket taking off, leaving the base only, screwed into the socket.
The current LUXTEN incandescent lamps that installed, are unfused and have a single coil filament and they dead within a month max.
