My mother tells me that she heard that the 75 watts incandescent light bulb ban is in effect. I did stop at the local Kroger last Sunday and found that both 75 and 100 Watts incandescent light bulbs are no longer at the shelf Sad

yep as of Jan 1 2013, they are no longer made. next year it's the 60 and 40w lamps. Sad It's not really that bad, i mean we can still use the 38, 57, 71 and 90W (well not komunist Kalufornia) lamps but they cost more upfront i think... 130V stnadard wattage lamps are still made IIRC.

here it'll be 29w, 43w, 53w, and 72w, all the stores seem ready to restock on these halogens once incs sell out

Yuck! Over here it's as if the ban never happened as we're only starting to ban 75 and 100w lamps next year in 2014. I think 60 and 40w lamps are scheduled to go in 2016.

@joe, believe it or not i found some ge 100w bulbs with the '2' date on the etch at a small independent market recently, that means 2012 after the ban! i will post pics later.

Interesting, I know here in Canada I've seen some newer 100w bulbs with the lumens on the etch. I wonder if I'll be seeing bulbs with a 3 on the etch a little later in the year though.

Hey Joe, you and Vince will have to be the incandescent dealers for us US residents. Razz Laughing i never really bought any 75W lamps for my stockpile since ay my hous we only use 60W lamps for everything but the keyless sockets, which have the original Sylvania 90W supersavers in them. My house originally had four keyless lampholders but now it's down to two (both being in the garage) and soon it'll be down to one or maybe even none depending on how much area the surface mounted/troffer light at the ReStore covers when and if i get it.

I'm not sure what i'll do the the single lamp preheat strip light I now own from my grandpa's shop (the fixture shell is still at the shop since my mom won't allow the dirty fixture in the house and i can't clean it with 6" of snow on the ground. Besides, the hose is tucked away in the shed so I wouldn't be able to do a thorough cleaning until spring anyways. When the weather is warmer, I'll get the single lamp light and repaint it and find a spot for it. Maybe it too can be in the garage, though five F40T12s might be a little overkill for a single-car garage LOL. Maybe it can go with the preheat single lamp light in the utility room...

hmmm it'd be cool to get a few bulbs made past the usa deadline, though our 100w bulbs did get the lumen ratings just before the ban took effect. i have a whole case of ge 100w bulbs made in hungary in october '11, all marked 1690 lumens on the etch. also in the usa some general service incs are not covered in the ban, such as 15w, 25w, 150w, 200w soft whites, clears, etc.

IMHO I think that incandescent light bulb ban does really defeats the purpose of these lighting effciency with those high lumens bulbs version whereas these bulbs out in the market that goes around the ban is actually a lower effciency bulbs Mad Rolling Eyes

I'm tired of communists taking lighting choices away from us. It's disgusting.
streetlight98   [Jan 08, 2013 at 08:26 PM]
Actually, this is more like a dictatorship (ie "do what i say" "buy what i say") type thing... I agree that the light bulb bans are pointless in generally and especially the incandescent ban becuase of the loopholes around the ban such as using reduced wattage lamps.

you know guys, i learned that the term 'freedom' means all kinds of good opportunities to live successfully, without intrusion on others. it means on a reasonable level, it does not mean it's ok to steal, commit murder, etc. incandescent bulbs don't cause much harm really, so it's pointless to impose bans on them, really.
streetlight98   [Jan 08, 2013 at 09:30 PM]
Yep, all of our rights in the bill of rights are on a reasonable level. That's why TV anchors can't drop F-bombs (even though our own Biden did at a speech... Rolling Eyes Laughing ) although most curses are oddly enough allowed on the radio whereas TV sensors are more strict...
