Major road lit by LEDs what a grief!
This is in the Porter Ranch area of LA. There are lots of LEDs replacing 200w-400w HPS being tested here. LA is going to eventually replace all of the cobraheads to LED, almost every residential street is now LED. On this street, I saw a few completely dead ones already. Sorry for the quality of the photo, I can only take pics with my phone at this time.

To be honest, the road looks well lit. Though the fixtures are terribly ugly and more importantly, these probably put out a big deal of glare which can blind drivers. BTW, i still see a cloud of nuclear waste floating in the sky in the background. Razz Laughing

could be blown inline fuses used in the poles is why you are seeing some out. Holyoke had some issues with that on there replacements. They replaced non working HPS fixtures and I noticed the new replacement LED lights were not working so I called HG&E and a few nights later they were working. The LEOTEK lights they are using here do a nice job lighting the street but I will agree they a very Glary.

@Tony, ever see any LEDs actually fail? I saw one newer LED fixture that replaced one from 2009-2010, it is a smaller 52w unit that replaced an earlier 70w unit (both 100w HPS equivalents). It is much brighter than the 70w units around it, lumen depreciation anyone?

Most common failure I see is dead sections, probably because the ballast has died. Less often that are intermittent, probably poorly installed. Only one I have seen glowing permanently at low power in a section. totally dead are either power or ballast failures, you cannot tell until they are fixed. Often you see dayburning ones as well, very stupid as they all have photocell provisions.

@ Dave, as of now I have not seen any dead LEDs. Everything here is less than 6 months old but I'm interested to see how long these last. So far, I have not seen any depreciation in lumens that I notice but I'm waiting to see how this hot summer takes its toll on this fixtures.

Summer did not kill any here, even the ones on a failed on group control survive still. Not worth reporting them, the crews are too busy replacing stolen cabling to attend to failures out of cycle.
