1968 M-400 Installed in my Yard! This is and my crimefighter are my only cobraheads without photocell sockets right now. Any others I've gotten without PC sockets I had added one. But with the 60s GEs (and 60s and 70s Westy lights) the ones without PC sockets were smooth on top, making it impossible to add a PC socket and have it looking original, so I'll leave them PC-less. If I ever put it into use I'll use a remote PC or just control it by a switch or timer. I have a third light without a PC socket, which is my NOS 400W MV Appleton flood light. Other than that, all my outdoor utility-grade lights have twist-lock PC sockets. The Newport Bridge joining Jamestown, RI and Newport, RI originally had 400W MV M-400s without PC sockets just like these. Keywords: American_Streetlights

I've always liked the look of these M-400's on the tapered elliptical arm.

The Robert Moses Parkway in Niagara Falls had original early 60s M400s.

Yeah these do look good on the tapered arms. I like these on the 6ft arms like this one and I like the OV-25 on the 10ft tapered arms that NEES also used quite a lot. The Veterans Memorial Ice Rink in Cranston is five minutes from my house and has some M-400s on tapered arms. They were clearly installed by Narragansett Electric back in the day but at some point had a meter installed and became privately owned, as I've called them into NGrid in the past and despite having NECO pole tags, NGrid told me they didn't have a record of owning those lights. Further interesting was that when Cranston LED'ed the other side of the parking lot, which had 400W HPS newer GE M-400s on 10ft tapered arms and 400W PF-400s, they did not LED these M-400s. The M-400s don't really work either. I say they don't really work because once in awhile I'll see them on but most of the time it's just one or none. I think some have MH lamps. The crooked pole to the right was removed and the pole behind it has no feed going to it. Only the three on the left (two are obstructed from view) are powered up. The last light along the building is a 100W HPS OVZ which is definitely NGrid-owned and is connected to lines that run behind the building. It had always run nightly. I am unsure if the OVZ was LED'ed or not.

I'm surprised the M-400s weren't LED'ed since the ice rink is a city place. Heck, Cranston has been LED'ing PRIVATELY OWNED lights lol. This M-400 is part of the Honeywell complex to the right (as you can see by an identical pole right next to it lighting the parking lot) however Cranston put up an LED in its place. It's a 20 or 40W LED too! (small size) and not a proper 250W=. Anyway, Honeywell closed that building and the lights haven't been on at night, including the LED because they're all controlled from the building! I'll have to get a pic and post it. I was laughing my behind off when I saw that! Worst part is that it was 400W MV! The whole complex is 400W MV and all-original except for one replacement RLG due to a knockdown (different looking pole). There's also been a 400W HPS new style M-400A installed since the streetview with a 400W MV lamp!
