it failament evaporrating on the glass, it just show it have lots of hours on them that pretty much sum it up

the as the filament get evaperated it become thinner over the years and it create hot spots that heat them up a bit more. one big killer on light bulb is thermal shock from fliping the switch wil bend the filament. like you took thin piece of metal and you bend it back and forth
it breaks in two. you can get very long hours from a lamp if you used dimmer switch that slow the filament expansion.
i have see bulb really black after EOL. esp automotive and 12 volt edison base bulbs.
