Early Version of Recessed Can Lighting?
This is in my grandparents' downstairs bathroom. It has a drop ceiling. This thing has some suface rust on it. When the lamp burns out, i might take the trim home and sand it down and paint it for them as my grandmother says she'd like something done about it. The light in the kitchen has the same surface rust issue too.

I see these from time to time at Restore, larger mercury versions of these were also made in the past and were somewhat common on institutional and commercial buildings. I like these more than the surface mount canopy lights that people use now though.

Oh and there's some interesting early recessed lights here some old ones even had glass reflectors. Razz

Wow. Glass reflectors in those? This one has a glass lens with white swirls in it. i wonder how this opens... Maybe the glass and trim side off?

UPDATE: I polished the trim on this light a few months ago. This is actually supposed to be chrome. Some steel wool was all that was needed to return this fixture to it's chrome glory.

Oh wow, I thought the frame was a dark bronze from the pic.

My grandma has told me it was silver, so I said I'd repaint it. I was "sanding" it with a steel wool pad and noticed the steel wool was revealing a chrome finish! So with a lot of elbow grease, I was able to remove all the surface rust so this looks totally different now!

Ahh, that's pretty neat.
