One interesting thing I've noticed with Canadian GEs and Sylvanias is that the 75w and 100w bulbs are 1000 hours whereas in the US they are typically 750 hours.l I've never understood why that is nor do I like the inconsistency. Does anyone have an explanation?

GE reduced the life of 75w through 300w bulbs from 1000 hour to 750 hour in the late 30s to increase sales. I wish everything was 1000 hour. On the maintenance jobs I have done, including replacing bulbs, I can tell you 750 hour bulbs are junk. They burn out way too fast! You get a 2-3 month life out of this junk, while the 60w bulbs last a fairly decent 5 month life.

I like having the same life across the board. I really like 3,000 hours as the starting point though I realize there is quite a trade off in efficacy. I like how the Philips Halogenas are pretty much all 3,000 hours.

Is this like the GE "Basic" (or "Econo-Lite" for you guys in canada)< or is this true inside frost like on 130v long life bulbs? I would love to see the effect from a vertical CC-8 filament in a true inside-frost bulb! That would be cool!

Interestingly recent Canadian incandescent lamps were also 750 hours. I remember back in the early 00s that GE Crystal Clears were sold in 4-packs and were all 750 hours. A few years later 4-packs disappeared and they went back to 1000 hours. In late 2011 4-packs have been brought back, but they are still 1000 hours.

I don't remember seeing 750hrs Soft Whites.
