First catch of the 2010 dumpster diving season!
Found in a very old stove. It was manual preheat, no tube and with a broken socket, I grabbed the ballast, the intact lampholder and the light socket inside the stove with its bulb.

On the ballast, you can see "4-63". I assume it means April 1963, pretty old!

Yes bud, try that out, it is way more than worth it! I don't know if you have scrap metal containers in your area, but if you do, these are usually full of electrical stuff. Take a look in them, with a few screwdrivers (be sure to be allowed to!). What's cool is that most of the time nobody wants these ballasts, so it's easy to get your hand on some of them for free!

Nice, I've never dumpster dived before, but maybe I should try it sometimes. I occasionally see fluorescent fixtures on the streets before though. The only thing that I got from a trash pile was two fluorescent fixtures from 1968 at my school.

I'm doing dumpster diving for 2 years already (I started in summer 2007, even before subscribing to LG), and I got lots of stuff! With the black choke above, I got 12 preheat chokes! I also have several other ballasts, including some CGE rapid start ballasts and two PL preheat ballasts.

Cool, I got most of my lighting stuff at Restore, before I found out about Restore I didn't have as much lighting stuff as I only got my stuff from hardware stores.

Hey Vince, that's really cool! I'm glad you're still finding neato stuff! I don't know of any good places to dumpster dive in my area.

Too bad... I built most of my fluoresceent ballasts and tubes collection with dumpster diving!
