Carbon arc - First clear picture.
I really like this pic. I successfully ran a carbon arc for more than 15 minutes using a hair dryer heater element as a resistive ballast. Rods came from old C size carbon-zinc batteries. Everything is held by bolts and a clay flower pot to make the "fixture".

The brightness is comparable to a 200W incandescent, not that bad!

Great job man! I like this picture, perfect for your wallpaper! Now try making a longer carbon arc, keep reaching higher!

What I like with this pic is how clear it is. The rods burn speed is still a problem, I burn a pair of rods completely in a little more than 20 minutes, I'd need carbon-zinc 6V batteries (those big square lantern batteries), they have 4 cells in series with much longer rods!

Cool project Vince, I like how clear and sharp the picture is.

Very cool! Maybe I should try one of these experiments someday Wink

Give it a try, it can be a lot of work, but the experiment is worth it! Smile

Hey Vince, I think aluminum foil works for this too, but I don't have the skills to try it, I don't even have the skills to make a carbon arc!
