Nice looking fixture.
looks like its got a battery backup for power failures too.
FGS   [Oct 04, 2012 at 05:23 PM]
I don't think this thing works. Never seen it lit up EVER for months.
GullWhiz   [Oct 05, 2012 at 02:02 PM]
Where's it located?
FGS   [Oct 05, 2012 at 02:47 PM]
Front of Giant where I work.
GullWhiz   [Oct 05, 2012 at 03:00 PM]
maybe it is only used for emergency? is there others found and working?
FGS   [Oct 05, 2012 at 05:22 PM]
Maybe. Confused Haven't checked for others yet. Any that were lit around the store are MHs.
joe_347V   [Oct 05, 2012 at 11:51 PM]
I think it is a emergency light, I see something that looks like a charging LED and test button on the left side of lamp.
FGS   [Oct 06, 2012 at 04:06 AM]
Okay. I did some investigating at work. My work place has 8 of these. None are lit at night. 4 of them are over the emergency exits. The other 4 are over the ramp leading to one of the emergency exits. Supposedly they come on whenever one of the doors are opened. Confused
GardcoApps   [Oct 08, 2012 at 07:48 PM]
Hi FGS, We have these at our Factory installed over Emergency exits. They are emergency lighting and are meant to provide sustained illumination for 90 minutes with loss of power. If they are not turning on they have a standard 5 year warranty-- we make them right here in Texas! Smile

Welcome to the Gallery of Lights GardcoApps! I'm Mike. Cool So you work right in the lighting assembly line eh? Very Happy
GardcoApps   [Oct 08, 2012 at 11:06 PM]
Thanks! Hi Mike, I'm Thomas. I do not work on the assembly line, but I do work with Engineers all over to provide lighting calculations for them. I found this site, because of typing in Mercury Vapor lamps---haven't seen them in awhile and remember them growing up. Nice little forum here, pretty nice pictures too! I do work at the factory however where these and many other luminaires are manufactured.

Yeah fortunatly mercury vapor is still very much "alive" on this website. Cool Unfortunatly, come 2016, all MV lamp production will be ceased. Crying or Very sad It's not like the current lamps are any good though (besides Sylvania and EYE). The GE and Philips mercs seem to be a little flimsy in terms of quality.
GardcoApps   [Oct 09, 2012 at 12:06 AM]
Hi Aaron, What is it that you do? If you wanted, I could help you along the path. So Mike, I've noticed a lot of smaller towns typically still use Mercury Vapor, typically in old Tear-drop style refractors (My favorite!). I've noticed a lot of people have posted pictures of Cobra heads and old Yard Lights, is there a particular type that everyone agrees is the best form of street lighting? (Meaning, Lamp type combined with Fixture Style). I never would have thought a website like this would have existed, pretty sweet.
A_lights   [Oct 09, 2012 at 12:17 AM]
I am currently a student at Oakland Community College in Auburn Hills MI, taking a few pre-requisite classes before I get to the Electrical class
Help would greatly be appreciated as i don't have a job yet !

seems everyone likes different types of fixtures, i prefer Mercury vapor cobra-heads for general streetlighting and other areas the teardrop fixtures are really classy
This site if definitely one of a kind as well as another site http://www.lighting-gallery.net/gallery/index.php

Welcome to GoL Thomas! Fortunately at lot of us here have a good number of mercury vapour lamps and fixtures in our collections even though MV is rarely seen in use nowadays. I only see MV left behind in old parking lots and in some small towns. Occasionally in some indoor recessed lights too.
GullWhiz   [Oct 09, 2012 at 01:24 AM]
Welcome to GoL! It's nice to see you here, I am one of the administrators in this website, and look forward to seeing your posts or what you share. Thank you so much for the answers about the product above.

Where I live, MV is still very much alive, it's almost all over my state, almost.....
FGS   [Oct 09, 2012 at 01:38 AM]
Thanks for the info on the light above. And welcome to GoL. I am Felipe.

As for the light working. I haven't had the chance to see it during power outages. The power company here is TOO reliable. And the store's generator doesn't give much time to see it fire up and turn off as the generator kicks in. Is there any reason why I have to open it up to press the test button? Confused
streetlight98   [Oct 09, 2012 at 01:43 AM]
@ Felipe; I'd guess it's so the switch doesn't get in contect with water. Neutral
A_lights   [Oct 09, 2012 at 01:45 AM]
Maybe this light doesn't have an AC ballast which is why it will only come on during power failures. .I've seen some like that
