Philips Marathon Outdoor 18W CFL - Repaired at no cost!
|
I had this CFL since June, but never really was able to take it apart in fear of breaking the triple tube inside. While cleaning *once again* my workshop today, I decided to force things and twist the vice handle a couple more turns... and POP! It opened with only one broken clip notch, so pretty much nothing.
Upon closer examination, tube filaments were OK, but fuse was open! However I noticed one of the two filtering electrolytic caps was bulged... Considering where the filtering cap is usually located in the circuit, it most likely shorted. I dug in my blown CFL ballast (~ 30) and quickly found a replacement 22uF, 200V cap. I spent little time replacing the cap, however replacing the supply wires going from the base took WAY more time! I had to improvise with whatever could fit in the PCB's holes.
