Cool! Seems your area, the electrical company LOVES powerdoors!

My area for Baltimore Gas and Electric loves powerdoors too but only in the 250/400 watt style fixtures and in HPS or MH. They used to use smaller fixtures for powerdoors..but they stopped and mostly use powerdoors for bigger ones. They used to do mercury vapor powerdoors but stopped installing new powerdoor MVs around the 80s. But they continued using MV powerdoor replacements for GE M-400A1 and A2s until the MV ban. They used GE M-400R3s for MV and GE M-400A3s for MH and HPS until the MV ban...

The city of Holyoke has a municipal utility. They were huge using M-250A2's for all there replacements (100 watt - 400 watt HPS). They started using the AEL 315 for about two years then switched back to the M-250A2 but more recently began using M-250R2 lights instead. The electric company I work for which sereves the Springfield MA area only uses the M-250R2 & M-400R3 fixtures. I like the powr/door designs more because it make reballasting existing fixtures easier!

Yeah, my area today is use AE 115 with sag lens and GE M-400A3s with sag lens (the newer AE 125-like fixtures) But they do still use old style GE M-400A2 powerdoors for door replacement, but that's if upper fixture is in good condition like the wiring and stuff....

What is used for 250 watt HPS? Most of our pet peeve is using 250 watt or higher in HPS in a small sized fixture, it shortens the lamps life! Mad

Thankfully my utiility company uses GE M-400A3s for 250 watt HPS!

Mine uses small for both 250 watt and 400 watt which are mainly M-250A2 or the AEL 315 but once in a blue moon HG&E with toss up an OVX which seem to last only a few years then there changing it out!

I thought GE stopped offering 400 watt HPS in small fixtures? MD State uses 250 in OVX, but MD state wouldn't dare to use 400 watt for OVX....that's crazy (with 400 watt MV is OK, but HPS, that's crazy!) But lately I've noticed AE 325s being used for 250 watt HPS in MD...hopefully the state lighting department have finally learned....250 watt or higher in small sized reflector = Bad idea!

Here the lighting contractor (the city owns the lights and contracts out the work) uses all small fixtures too, the 115 is used for 70, 150 and 250 watt lamps, and the OVX is used for 400 watt lamps. Most of which end up cycling within a year. Rolling Eyes Personally I would use the 115 for 150 watters and below, and the 125 for 200 watts and up.

The city of westfield only puts up 400 watt Hps OVX's. they are cycling witin two years all the time. The next town over from me bought out the streetlights from the public utility serving them which is my company. They install 115's up to 250 watt but recently began installing LRL satelite LED lights which I HATE! @ gailgrove- I agree with using 125's or M-400s for 200 and up also! alot of the M-400 here have been up 40 years and still working great. @ gullwhiz- I checked and your right, Ge no longer carries M-250A2 in 400 watt which would explain why i haven't seen any new ones go up in a while.

Welcome Again to the Gallery of Lights Tony!

The utility here uses all GE. M-250R2 for 50-250w and the occasional M-400 in 400w. Once in a while an OVZ us used but not often. No AEL lights are used here. BTW, Tony you can call me Mike or Michael instead of my username if you perfer to.
Antstar85   [Aug 03, 2011 at 11:42 PM]
OVZ were very popular over in westfield Ma but the changed to M-250R2 last year. sounds good Mike!

My utility used to install Powr/Doors a long time a go, but it doesn't help that they don't carry spare powr/door modules in the truck. Rolling Eyes
