Westinghouse Floodlight
I got this over the summer at a surplus and salvage place. I got it for the price that it would be if it were to be recycled. So I saved it from being melted down into something else! The ballast that it came with was a Westinghouse 400watt MV and did 120, 208, 240, 277 volt but it burnt a hole in its self. So I replaced it with a ballast that came out of a high bay GE fixture I found at the restore a long time ago. The new ballast has no name on it so I don’t know who made it but I do know that it is 400watt MV/MH and does 120, 208, 240, 277 volt. Right now it is hocked up for 120. The fixture has a PC on top as you can see. There is a back panel on the back that you can open up to connect the wires coming in. The bulb that it came with was a GE 400watt MV bulb that still works! Any questions? Ask!

Where was the short? If it's in the, say, 277V part, the 120V winding will still be good.

Well the winding is where it burned the hole Sad I still have the ballast though.

If you examine the ballast carefully, you could possibly see where the different taps connect to the primary winding. The 120V tap is usually the closest to the COMMON wire. If the short if (starting from the furthest tap) before the 120V tap, the ballast could possibly be still good. A short in the secondary winding kills the ballast all the way though.

I made an article with pictures explaning how ballasts work in the forum part. You could take a look at it and make 100% sure your ballast is completely unusable Wink The ultimate step would be to simply test it, if you haven't already done so.

Welcome back Parrot!! Happy to see you again!

And that is a nice find man! Vince (TiCoune66) is correct about that.....the higher the voltage is, then the longer the winding is....if there is no damage between 120 volt to the common, then it could still be good....
