Sylvania F96T12/CW/SS
Came in my slimline fixture I got today. These are picky about temperature- at about 40 degrees forget it but at 75 degrees they're pretty bright once warmed up but still flicker at first. Despite being the hated 60w energy savers (trust me, 75w lamps are in the offing) they're decently bright on the full-power Advance ballast.

Seriously? Laughing That'd be 70s, not 90s! Laughing The ballast looks original though, no wire splices like it's been replaced or tar stains or anything.

well, you never know lol. Laughing

We've seen weirder things...

These have since clocked many more hours in almost-daily use but no blackening yet! Very Happy

Yeah only the good die young. Apparently that applies to lamps too lol. These dim purple lamps will probably keep going and going lol. Interestingly, the Sylvania 60W /CWX slimlines like this that I pulled from my grandpa's shop didn't have a ton of wear on them. There's one lamp that got gray rings as far as 6" from the end of the lamp though and it's been that way for years. I'm wondering if it's just dirt/spray redidue, as it's in the spray room. You can't see it most of the time since when he's got the garage-type door opened, it's blocked by the door.

Oh did you pull then just because they're horrible and dim? Laughing Yeah it seems that way although all my electronic F32T8 ballasts are lasting and lasting! Laughing
streetlight98   [Sep 04, 2014 at 06:39 PM]
no they were dead. He won't let me remove dim tubes if they work. Sometimes I'll still change them though since when the switch is off he doesn't know which ones work or not.

Laughing "Oh, the lights are so much brighter now! Darn it Mike! You changed all the lamp! Laughing
streetlight98   [Sep 05, 2014 at 11:01 AM]
Laughing the sad thing is that he wouldn't even notice if i changed the color temp too. Laughing
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Sep 05, 2014 at 05:18 PM]
6500K daylight time! Laughing
streetlight98   [Sep 05, 2014 at 07:51 PM]
5000K time. Razz Very Happy But /850, not /950.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Sep 05, 2014 at 08:22 PM]
Yeah so it's brighter...
I like the Duro-Test Power-Twist Vita-Lite idea...giving it more phosphor area to make up for a dim high CRI lamp...I wish I could find a NOS case of those!
Although it was banned last month I like /765 too.
I'd like to get some daylight or /950 34 watt lamps someday...
streetlight98   [Sep 05, 2014 at 09:19 PM]
They just banned /765 last month? I thought all lamps under 80-something CRI were banned?
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Sep 05, 2014 at 09:29 PM]
Not 75CRI F32T8s until well...two months ago actually. As of July 15th I believe they can no longer be manufactured or imported.
I think low CRI would be allowed with more than 89LPW but I'm not positive.
The idea I think with the low-lumen 4100K CWX F40s nowadays is that they're technically specialty lamps and not mainstream cool white. Also their low light output will likely encourage people to convert to F32T8/841s instead. But I like my dim, inefficient /950 lamps on full power PCB ballasts! Laughing
streetlight98   [Sep 05, 2014 at 09:40 PM]
Oh that sucks... I have a pair of SP35 GE EcoLux lamps that are over 3000 lumens a lamp and they're incredible lamps! I think 78 CRI. I think that CRi is plenty high.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Sep 05, 2014 at 09:51 PM]
I forget what the exact parameters are but I think it's like 87CRI and/or 89LPW to pass.
3500K SPX35 T8s (/853) are really bright too!
streetlight98   [Sep 06, 2014 at 01:44 AM]
Just looked it up, SPX35 isn't even 3000 lumens. Yeah my SP35 F40T12s get 31000 lumens per lamp.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Sep 06, 2014 at 02:00 AM]
I think it's like 2900 for a F32T8.
streetlight98   [Sep 06, 2014 at 02:31 AM]
It's too bad that the've destroed the nice and bright fluorescent lamps we all know and love. the only decent lamps not cost a lot. Confused
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Sep 06, 2014 at 02:34 AM]
It is kind of a shame...but it will encourage people to switch over to more efficient, modern technologies. I have nothing against the new electronic T8 stuff but enjoy collecting the old stuff for sure, as we all do!
