I took this while out doing Storm Duty after the tornado. I thought it was crazy after to see the pole was knocked over and the mounting bracket was bent up that the fixture was completely intact!
Thank you! Its awesome to share photos with you all and learn more about fixtures!
Yes the pole has been since fixed but sadly the light ended up in the dumpster at work. My company seems to just junk good fixtures that are barley even used. It was though replaced with a new M-250R2 on a newer cantilever style Bracket
WOW! I have a picture from a storm here in NJ that we had a few days ago (July 29th) that knocked a streetlight and transformer right down with 3 other poles with it. A huge tree fell on the wires, broke all 4 poles, and took everything with it. It looked like dominoes! The power was out to the area for 2 days.
Yeah storms can be violent. This was nothing compared to some of the neighborhood hit. There are neighborhood completely flat, not one tree or utility pole standing. My company only uses m-250Rs and M-400A3s and I was talking to the guy in our stockroom and he said they ordered 150 70 watts, 75 100 watt, 75 150 watt, 100 250 watt, and 50 400 watt fixtures that were all lost during the tornado!
I actually live 2 towns north of where the tornado passed so my property was fine but I was about 10 miles from losing it. I was in the city when it did pass! It was pretty freaky!
Alll of RI is under a tornado watch tonight. There are some really stong storms in CT that are producing rotating winds that could turn into tornados. We're getting ready. We cleaned out our closet under the staircase so thr four of us can cram in if need be. we'll be packed like sardines so unfortunatly if a tornado does cross paths with my house (hopefully one won't, as they're predicting scatterned/isolated tornados as well as some flooding in low-lying areas, thankfully i'm not in a flood zone) my lights are doomed.
The most I'd be able to fit would be my box of photocells and maybe my incandescent stockpile. The news mentioned that NGrid will be shutting down some of the more vulnerable substations as a precautionary measure since if any powerlines fall on houses... Plus during the March 2010 Floods, there was a substation that was 8 feet underwater in warwick! some of the equippement got washed away and it was very costly.
They are scary. I was in the city at one of our substations when this passed, maybee 200 yards away. The winds were so strong you couls see trees just snapping like a lawnmower cutting Grass. Defentely watch the skys!.
You saw it all the way in BC? Hmm. Did you see it on the weather channel? I doubt there'll be one but we have to take every necessary precaution. What do they look and sound like? I have a huge knot in my stomach right now. Tornadoes only impact a narrow path right? Not widespread like hurricanes? It's pooring so loud I can't even hear my brother playing in the room next to me (which is very uncommon lol). No thunder or lightning yet but the rain is just flying towards North-East.
Your not the only one now Mike. They just issued a tornado watch for western mass. The tornado that struck Springfield got to a 1/2 mile wide. There were neighborhoods totally flattened.
Hope you stay safe too. It looks like I could be in the clear... It stopped raining right now and it's much brighter outside. Looks like the bulk has passed us. I see some splotches of blue sky. I see there's a storm heading North of the CT line though. I guess we can just hope or the best.
I saw it on a weather/radar app I have on my phone, thought it was handy to have when I was traveling in the US,also have skywatchers weather warnings info on FB.
Cool! Yeah that does sound handy when on the go. well I have good news: the rain is gone now and there are some breaks in the clouds though we're still under a tornado watch until 9PM EST.
Tony and Mike, I am not that far from you guys at the moment lol. I was in Webster, MA when it rained like crazy and my phone issued a flash flood warning. BTW I think Webster MA has the same utility as RI. I went through CT to get to MA and saw the rusty steel arms there.
If Webster, MA was once owned by Mass Electric, then yeah they're owned by the same company as RI (National Grid US). My phone issued a flash flood warning too and so did the local weather. Some roads like Bald Hill Road in Warwick (where the malls and car dealerships are; aka Rte 2) were flooded out.
Great shot! Wow that sure looks roughed up! Has that been fixed?
