Crosswalk Signals and LPS Crosswalk Lights
Here's a shot of a Ontario crosswalk signal in operation, the signals only flash when a pedestrian pushes a button to cross. The lighted crosswalk signs are always lit and use LPS lamps. The older signs said "Cross X Walk" or "Cross X Over" on it instead of just the X.

i think the Signs should only light at night.

In Israel crosswalk signals is much different. They are simply a dual orange light signals that flashs non stop to warn the drivers and the pedestrians cross the crosswalk when the cars stops moving. But most drivers in Israel ignores the crosswalk signals. Cross buttons have only in several crosswalk with standard traffic lights and doesn't immediately cause the traffic lights of the drivers to became red and the crosswalk lights to become green. Anyway lighted signs in Israel are always use fluorescent lighting.

Here in B.C. the majority of controlled crosswalks consist of regular traffic signals with flashing green lights, when a pedestrian pushes the button, the flashing green becomes stready, then in a few seconds changes to yellow then red like a conventional traffic light.

@form109 I think so too but, over here the Ontario Traffic Manual requires that crosswalk signs be continually illuminated and have open slot at the bottom which lights the road too.

@Darren, there's also a few crosswalks like what you described except the ones here don't flash green since flashing green here means a advance green light.

I saw a few of these at the salvage yard with the B2213s, they are huge! each one seemed to have 2 180 watt LPS lamps with the ballasts in the sign, there where also four 12 inch signals mounted to each side of the sign, I guess it wasn't quite this style but more like this.

I guess the smaller version uses one 180w LPS lamp then, I've seen some older ones with four 8 inch incandescent signals instead of 12 (like the one in your link) but they're getting hard to find.

Here in Brampton that one I linked to is the only one left, all the others have been replaced by something like this using a full traffic signal set up.

Most of them in Markham were replaced with a similar setup to what you linked too, this is one of the last flashers still up, although it uses mast arms instead of a span wire.

Hmm this looks rather familiar. Razz
BTW I'm getting a blank email when you comment.

Why it's our good friend, the taped up OV 25 Laughing

I'm not sure about the blank email issues though. Confused

And then later the striking 125 with the most ridiculous wiring ever seen, I wonder why this pole is so tall?
joe_347V   [Aug 28, 2011 at 08:28 PM]
That's always a classic Laughing Rolling Eyes

I think that other pole used to have cobraheads too but somehow they got removed.
