The OVX!!! I got this fixture, didn't have a ballast...so I put a Cooper 150 watt HPS ballast in it...I tried to make it like how it is supposed to be put together...It is not 100% the way the factory does it.... This fixture body is from 1992, the ballast I installed is from 1996 so it is pretty close! Keywords: American_Streetlights

The OVX!!!

If you want to see the OVX size... Look in my gallery and you will see a picture of me Holding Alex's OVX. xD You can see how small it is. (He is holding the 125 so you can get a gist of that size too. xD)

How are you fixing the hinges?

Aaron, What ballast are you gonna use when you get the OVX? I might be able to send you a ballast to use with this. If he doesn't give you one.

I was planning on using a 400W probe start metal halide ballast or a 350W pulse start in. there , he is sending it without. A ballasts , I could use that 70w HPS ballast, or even the 100/150W HPS he's sending !

I wouldn't use a 400 watt ballast personally, the OVX is just a small fixture that should only go up to 250 watts.

Actually 400 watt MV or MH would be fine....not the 400 watt HPS.....I mean OV-400 was a 400 watt MV fixture with a OV-15 body.......

I don't even think 250 watt HPS should be in a small body!

I was planning to put that Probe-Start MH ballast I found in a fixture on the ground in this OVX when I would of gotten this, but now since this is going to Aaron I will use that ballast for something else, I dunno what yet. Maybe just as an extra in case one of my current ballasts inside a fixture burns out.

I'd personally say a general small fixture should have 50-150w HPS and 70-250w PSMH. A fixture like this could hold up to 400w PSMH easily, but I still wouldn't use HPS over 150. IMO, it's the size of the opticals, not the size of the fixture that matters most. In the manufacturer's eye, it's all about up front cost, not quality. Sad

That's kind of how people are. they think about "Now" Not the future.

Like if you buy a 400 watt OVX it will end up being more EXPENSIVE to maintain over the years than using a 400 watt OVD. But they just go with now since they go with what money they have NOW.

How is the broken hinge even holding up in this picture? You said when a cooper gets a broken hinge the door won't stay up. Unless it somehow did.

It wasn't broken that time...but they CAN stay up......they can even with one broken...

Wait a second. I thought OVX luminaires didn't come out til the early 2000s. When did Cooper introduce the OVX luminaire?

nope it came out in the early 90s IIRC. The first ones had metallica NEMA tags like the OVS, OVM, and OVC.

Hmm. I guess I didn't pay any attention to the OVX luminaires. Didn't start noticing them til late 2003, early 2004, prior to starting to take pictures of street lights.
