(Photo Courtesy of pslawinski of LG) Westinghouse OV20 idea
I'm using this pic of a late model OV20 as a reference for an idea I came up with. As you know, the advent of LED and O-LED lighting allows the use of much smaller space for the driver and diodes than traditional streetlights. So, here we go. Why not build an exact replica of the OV-20 housing with the 4 bolt slipfitter, but have a provision for a low profile P-Cell window on top. Then, utilizing the same hinge and latch assemblies as the original, the module would consist of a stippled acrylic or polycarbonate globe with the diodes on a mounting plate, then on the backside of the plate would be the driver, terminal board, and (if ordered), a P-Cell. This module would also be ideal for retrofitting existing OV20s and Ovalites as there would be a replica of that available too. In the case of a retrofit, the glass, lamp, ballast, reflector, and socket would all be removed, new wiring from the P-Cell or pole would then be fished through the housing, landed at the terminal board, hung and latched. Retrofit complete!!! Whaddayathank??

The thought is nice but no one seems to have converted existing fixtures to LEDs. A few years ago, there were several retrofit modules for cobraheads but most have disappeared off the market since everyone seems to have opted for new LED fixtures. I would have loved to see the cobraheads around here converted to LED. The nice cobraheads would be retained and the awful orange light would disappear, replaced with white light. Sure the retrofit panels would probably be FCO but some of the lights here are already FCO. However, there are two OV-20s I know of still in service. They have integral PC sockets too (Westinghouse did offer an OV-20 with a slightly longer slipfitter with a PC socket added but they're very rare).

I was also referring to full out LED reproductions of both the OV20 and Ovalite.

Oh yeah, we talked about that, I think it is an awesome idea honestly although demands might not be very high, but it will save some parking lot lights and or fixtures and some money too!!!

That was said about the teardrop design until King and Holophane came out with their respective luminaires. I think this would look great on a Stresscrete or Union Metal S-Arm pole

me personally i Love that idea. even if HID lamps will always be my favorite as it looks currently LED is set to dominate the lighting market IMO. converting old fixtures would sure help the sting but i find it highly unlikely.
