American Electric Model 313
Shown here is the reflector inside my 70 watt high pressure sodium 313. The Sylvania lamp was included with the fixture, however it is at the end of it's life. I moved the lamp socket all the way forward since it was too far back when I received it. The socket was almost out of the reflector and there was a gap around the porcelain shell.

It's a cycler? I have 70W HPS Sylvania lamps just like this that are way blacker and still work fine! Shocked

No. It didn't even warm up. It tried to. I left it plugged in like 10 seconds. I put the NOS Philips Alto lamp in this 313 from my 70 watt M250R2 and it warmed up to full brightness.

Hmm weird. Did it not strike at all? Or just do a dim glow? If it started like normal and then just stopped warming up and stayed a LPS color then the lamp's outer envelope seal has failed so the nitrogen fill has escaped.

EDIT: Nevermind, if the vacuum failed the getter (silvery crap around the neck of the glass near the base) would have turned white.

It just kept flashing dimly like it was trying to strike.

Hmm interesting. Those Sylvania lamps are decent for the most part but I've seen a few (typically the lower wattage 50-100W ones here) that just randomly quit rather than cycling. And they quit early on too, like after a year.

Hmm. Interesting. I wonder how good 1000bulbs PLT high pressure sodium lamps are? I have some. They seem well made, but I'm interested in the lifespan too.

Only one way to find out. You'll have to put one in nightly service. Smile From what I've heard 1000Bulbs' PLT stuff is pretty decent.
