Another Shot of the M-400A2
This was General Electric's medium sized cobrahead (with Powr/Door feature) from 1985 until 1997 (it continued in production as an uncatalogued item until January 1, 2016 but rarely saw any use outside of Chicago). This one is from 1997 and was originally 400W HPS but was converted to 320W PSMH while it was in service. It also didn't have a PC socket when I got it but I added one since I think cobraheads look better with PC sockets. I repainted this back in 2014 as the original powdercoat was badly worn and the light was very chalky. It's looking much better these days!

Very nice Mike Cool. I shouldn't have taken down the 4x4 post I had in the backyard. I'd like to mount some of my lights outside to get some nice pics.

thanks! I certainly wouldn't mount this on a lonely 4X4 though. If it wasn't connected to the deck it surely wouldn't hold lol. Even with the deck, I'm leery about leaving it up since the light is bouncing around in the wind. 1-1/4" aluminum arms are not the sturdiest lol. But I just love the look of the M-400A2. I'd love to get an OV-15 or L-150 but odds of that are slim. There are some 70W and 250W HPS L-150s in Middletown/Newport (and lots of 100W MV OV-15s over there too!)

Nice mike! Does GE make any HPS cobras anymore? I can't find any HPS cobras on their site anymore. Just the GE evolves. Coated fixtures always look nicer than non coated Smile

You must be looking at the wrong page since they're right here. GE no longer makes PSMH cobraheads or induction. However, the popular demand for HPS cobraheads by major utility companies has prompted GE to continue their most popular HPS cobraheads until the demand for them falls at which point GE will only make LED light fixtures.

Real clean looking restore there! Was there some sort of puch-out/mark for a photocell, or did you have to find the spot to drill in? Looks like the intended spot for the photocell to me.

Thanks! Most cobraheads (virtually all after the 1960s) have some sort of extruded area on the housing meant for the PC socket to be installed on. So on most cobraheads, you just have to drill the hole out. With this particular light, there was just a black snap-in cover over the PC socket hole, as the hole in the housing was already drilled. GE did that a lot in the mid 90; just using black snap-in caps to cover the already-drilled holes. So installation was as simple as popping out the cover and snapping the PC socket into place.

Thanks! BTW, I will be sending your boxes out very soon. Just waiting for the money to enter my bank account so I can use it to pay for the shipping.

UPDATE: Well this thing made it through 65MPH wind gusts the other night so I now have no fears of leaving up one of the "Big B@stards", as I call the larger lights like this, installed in the yard lol. I was always afraid a heavier light would twist and splinter the deck post if it caught enough wind. Fortunately cobraheads are pretty aerodynamic and the wind just goes around them, though this thing was bobbing all around in the wind lol.

Yeah that wind was pretty insane! Just spent the last two days restoring power but we got just about everyone back on. I'm surprised how well these fixtures do on some of the larger A-frame brackets we use.
