My General Electric M-400A2 Installed in the Backyard!
This was General Electric's medium sized cobrahead (with Powr/Door feature) from 1985 until 1997 (it continued in production as an uncatalogued item until January 1, 2016 but rarely saw any use outside of Chicago). This one is from 1997 and was originally 400W HPS but was converted to 320W PSMH while it was in service. It also didn't have a PC socket when I got it but I added one since I think cobraheads look better with PC sockets. I repainted this back in 2014 as the original powdercoat was badly worn and the light was very chalky. It's looking much better these days!

These lights are still pretty common on the pike here in the western part of the state.

Yep I've seen those; on really tall truss poles on the ramps. Smile

Looks great....I think it's one of the most attractive cobra heads made. Used to be tons of them in Seattle until they were replaced with the ubiquitous Leotek Green Cobras. Fortunately I have my own M400A though it lives IN my garage, downsized to 100w mercury.

Thanks! Yeah the M-400A2 is arguable one of the best cobrahead design as of more recent years. It combines that classic GE cobrahead look with new features like a bail latch, street side socket, tool-free PC socket (though I honestly prefer the screw-retained ones since the tool-free springs like to loosen up after a while) plug-in ignitor, and this particular version of the M-400A2 has a 4-bolt fitter. The 1985-1992 version had the 2-bolt rocket fitter like the M-400 split door and M-400A. In 1992 the M-400R2/A2 got the 4-bolt fitter. And in 1993, the M-250R2 went from a 4-bolt to a 2-bolt fitter. Not sure on an exact year for the M-250A2 though. It was when they went from the squared off refractor door to the round nosed door in the late 90s. I have a 1987 M-250A2. Last year they were made with the original design, which has a squared off front and top. Then they rounded the top off, and eventually the whole fixture was rounded off, though the current M-250A2 still looks a little more boxy than the M-250R2.
