I'm thinking this may be the evolution of the 1970s Sears shoplights I have. It's reflector is smaller but still is similar, it has a Universal Therm-O-Matic ballast (something one of mine originally had) It's stamped with RAPID START LAMPS ONLY as well.
The ballast channel, though, is like a couple other shoplights I have, making me think they're the next "generation" of this.
Yeah looks really pretty up there, but as you said, I can see how it would get old after awhile. I wouldn't want to live off-grid and I hate seafood so I probably wouldn't like it up there lol. I must have missed your pics of the Lithonia. I'll take a look now...
Ah yeah I can't eat "exotic" food lol. I just don't have the stomach for it. Granted, I've never tried it and you can't knock it til you try it, but I refuse lol. With "standard" meats like hamburg, chicken, pork, etc, I don't associate the meat with the animal. At Thanksgiving dinner, I don't eat any turkey (maybe a tiny bit) since the thing is still in "bird form" lol. TBH, I'm not much a fan of turkey deli meat either so I just don't even really like the taste of turkey.
Wait? You have a McDonald's there? In Sitka or a similar developed down I assume? What do your typical meals consist of? Since it's just you and your dad (when he's not away) you can probably go a couple weeks without going into town for groceries right? We go once a week (to multiple stores, so my mom could go food shopping a few times in a week, but get a few things here, a few things there, etc.). The bulk of our food shopping is done at WalMart or Stop & Shop (aka Giant Food in some parts of the country).
As for "exotic" food, it depends what it is for me. For me the one I can't stomach is really hot/spicy food items. My dad thinks it's funny to sneak jalpeno peppers into stuff, since he likes them, as well as the look on my face LOL.
I always feel guilty at the idea of shooting a deer but then I think about all the cruelty store-bought beef goes through LOL.
I like chicken, but don't care for fish. I always found turkey kind of "blah" though. A lot of people love seafood, I find it almost tasteless. (especially salmon or halibut, ubiquitous around here).
No McDonald's here, closest is in Sitka. But, years ago, a friend's stepdad (Small irony: they lived down near the bottom left of the photo, you can't see the house behind trees though) had him convinced (we were both about 10 at the time) that there WAS indeed a McDonald's just outside of town, off to the right background of this photo.
We mail-order our perishables (produce, etc). Basically the stores have your credit card number, etc. on file and you call, email, or fax them your order and they shop it out, stick it in a box, and stick it in the mail. It works but sometimes they do really annoying substitutions. (Brands, etc). I'm not really brand-specific on things like paper towels, etc. but on food items I can be.
And remember how I was mentioning jalapenos? Sometimes the stores mess up and send serentos (sp?). Much hotter.
Same friend's stepdad once made this (supposedly) jalepeno dip/salsa for a community potluck a few years ago. I got suckered into trying it and let's just say my throat was burning for a good 45 minutes! It only reinforced my being wary of "hot" foods.
Now...my was-going-to-be-stepbrother...was REALLY into hot foods, dumping (IMO ridiculous) amounts of hot sauce on everything and anything it seemed.
My typical meals? It depends. I hate cooking for myself though, it's more enjoyable for multiple people. I can go two weeks without ordering food. But for dry goods you can stock up a lot; many people here go to Costco in Juneau once or twice a year. We might do it this year and also bring stuff back for others here for freight charges on our boat. Someone I know once rented a U-Haul van and filled it up in one Costco trip, for themselves and their in-laws. (See? Another reason to own a Deuce; I hadn't thought of that one yet).
I'm the sort of person who would go grocery shopping every day if I could though, for what I needed.
I've been here for nine straight months before without going to town, (three of those by myself) and I was sure glad to get into the "outside world" again after that. (Namely, back to California for a month and 2 months in and out of Sitka and Craig).
