Auxillary Power Tap Idea
Here's my idea for an auxillary power tap. It is made out of a dead DTL PC. I used the body of it. Drilled a hole in the top for the PC socket, sharpied the window black, and ripped out the circuit board (it was a dayburner). All I need now is a solder gun, some solder, a cord with a female end, and a waterproof cord strain relief.

Here's what it looks like installed on my OV-10IB.

I've seen stuff like this used before to power stuff like security cameras, etc. that are conveniently mounted on top of streetlights.

Yep that's exactly what this type of device is for. A genuine one costs like $75-100 because they have a mini circuit breaker and relay inside to prevent overloading the PC or supply wire. I won't include that, but I'll obviously be mindful of the 1000W MAX load of the PC lol.

So no running highmasts? Laughing

LOL not off this, but you could control highmasts with photocells. Each head could have its own PC or you could mount a remote-PC somewhere with a contactor/relay and have the one PC control the whole pole (or multiple poles for that matter). My friend Marco (who gave me the light above and the OVC) said he's been involved in jobs where an entire ballpark's field lights are all run off one run-of-the-mill wall-mounted toggle switch (of course a contactor/relay is involved). I'm still totally clueless as to how they work lol.

Oh yeah you told me about that. Ever seen that vid on youtube called something like "Why the power really went out at the superbowl" where a husband and wife are trying to find out what a mystery light switch in their house does?

LOL no never saw that video.
