Cooper Lighting OVY
Here's my newest addition to my collection. A 250 watt HPS Cooper OVY. This was a early Christmas gift from my parents. I never really liked cobraheads that have these low profile sag refractors. But I'm starting to like it more now though. I wanted an OVF, that has the newer style latch, but for the price this was too good of a deal to pass up. I can probably get a full cutoff lens for it.

very nice! What year is this from? I'm not sure when they switched from the pull-latch to the bail latch. the OVY sag lens is my favorite because it's semi-prismatic so there's not that harsh bare arc tube shining in your eyes.

Mike, saw your other comment to ignore your other comments about the year. (I have that information listed under "file information" just below the picture just so you know for future references by the way Very Happy )
I like the bail latch better. And I like the OVF better than the OVY. The OVF is my favorite full-cutoff medium size cobrahead.

yeah lol i didn't catch that. a lot of people don't fill that info out. I'll admit unless i'm bored i generally don't lol.

I try to fill out what I can so it is done the "correct" way. Plus it helps out whoever is looking at the picture so they can just look below the pic and maybe find out what they wanted to know. That is, unless that person doesn't even bother looking at the "file information". . . .Mhm. . . .MIKE!!!! Laughing

Lol not a problem. I just figured, that space is there for a reason, so I fill it out.

Nice! I haven't gotten any new streetlights for a while, we have space restrictions. But that's really nice!

BTW, if you trace the sag glass's perimeter on paper, you can bring it to lowes or home depot or some sort of glass cutting shop and get a FCO glass custom-cut with a sheet or tempered glass. just measure the thickness of the rim of the OVY glass beforehand and if they don't have the exact thickness go the closest smaller size so it'll fit.

I tried that. Home Depot told me they don't cut glass there but they sell glass sheets and tools to cut glass. The glass I was thinking about buying was pretty cheap. But it said it was for picture frames and windows. I don't know if it was tempered. Does it have to be tempered glass?

yeah you want tempered glass because non-tempered glass will shatter if there's a sudden change in temperature (like if you've been running the light for awhile and then open a nearby door and a cold breeze blows in). Picture glass i don't think is tempered but i'd assume window glass is... Glass shelves in fridges are tempered. If something glass is tempered it'll look green if you look at it from the side (so you look at it along the lip) and when looking through it (as you would look through a window) it's clear like normal glass. Tempered glass is treated so that it doesn't shatter as easily when exposed to significant differences in temperature. cooking dishes that are glass (those ones that go in the oven) are borosilicate glass, which is what prismatic glass refractors (and sag glasses like above) are made from. It's a harder, more durable glass but i don't think it can be altered after it's been cast. (so you can't cut it like you can cut tempered glass) Borosilicate glass is made in forms, i guess similar to how cast metal is formed.
