Ahh not good! Neutral
Its job security though! what was this before induction? I rember a pic of it lit and it looks funny
I wonder if The HF generator will survive since the lamp is broken
FGS   [Dec 28, 2012 at 04:26 AM]
I don't believe it will survive without a lamp. A friend of mine removed the bulb part of a GE Genura induction while it was on and killed the ballast in it.

Heheh someone liked the MV better than in induction. Razz Laughing

Mike, I was thinking that too at first! I think he said these were once 400w MV...
Why will the HF generator not survive without a lamp?
A_lights   [Dec 28, 2012 at 09:11 PM]
I belive it overloads the electronics, some cheap electronic fluorescent ballasts fail as well with no lamp

Is that why CFLs die the way they do? Will this happen instantaneously?
A_lights   [Dec 29, 2012 at 03:01 AM]
Yes something like that, i belive it takes only a few seconds too
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Dec 29, 2012 at 03:03 AM]
Hmm...interesting!

The QL lamps would've looked better than a circle-shaped bulb in these. The university I went to had similar fixtures but they are all HPS.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Dec 31, 2012 at 05:35 PM]
They should have put the "circline" bulb horizontally instead of vertically...
A_lights   [Dec 31, 2012 at 11:10 PM]
I think it would still look pretty funny!
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Dec 31, 2012 at 11:23 PM]
You're right- it would, but not as bad as this does!
rlshieldjr   [Apr 06, 2013 at 11:05 PM]
I replaced the ring lamp with a 250w MH/C
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Sep 07, 2014 at 12:40 AM]
Which looks a lot better I bet! At the very least I'd use a large compact fluorescent but that's just me.
