PC Sockets
My PC sockets arrived today. I ordered them to fix the two broken ones on my R47 and B2255, the other two are just spares I also got.

Here's some pics showing two of my PC sockets installed in my R47 and B2255. They replaced the original PC sockets both of which were broken at the right of the pic. Since the original sockets were shorter I had to get some longer screws to screw them in. The original gaskets were also shot so I used a knife and a sheet of craft foam to make a couple of new ones. I reused the original metal mounting rings that the sockets screwed on though.

ahh nice! Cool

Thanks Mike! They were a lot cheaper on eBay compared what a local hardware place wanted for one or what 1000bulbs wanted to ship to Canada.

Yeah shipping to canada seems to be an expensive thing even for just small stuff. Ripley offers PC receptacles designed especially for cobraheads. see the link here. seems like it's everything you need for a light w/o a PC socket! Though if you already have the hardware from the existing one, then what you have will work too and be much easier on the wallet (guessing these were 1 or 2 dollars each?)

Yeah, a lot of companies tend to overcharge Mad for shipping to Canada and sometimes also there's import and customs charges too. I got these for around 3 a piece but it only included the socket. I actually was only able to reuse the metal ring, the original screws were too short and the rubber seal was shot so I replaced it with a sheet of foam.

Those are the Exact receptacles that are in my Leotek LED streetlights. Funny thing in the Leotek's is they didn't set them up for 360 degree turns. they just drilled and tapped them into the housing.

Yeah i guess the "aim the eye north" pracice is obselete now with silicone photoeyes, but there is the chance thate there will be an obstruction like tree branches or light trespass into the photoeye.

I wonder if lineman still aim the PCs north especially since you can't on some newer lights, like Tony said.

I know NGrid doesn't. I don't think Narragansett Electric or Blackstone Valley Utility did either. All the 70s-ish GEs i see (including my NOS M-400 and the M-250A from Joe M.) have the photoeye at the 5 O'Clock position if the light is standing up straight with the slipfitter end up. The new GEs i see all have the PC at the 7 O'Clock (or 8 O'Clock position if the receptacle gets moved while inserting the PC) if the light is standing up with the slipfitter end down.

My OV-10 had the PC socket @ the 10-11 O'Clock position when i got it, though I'm not sure if it was adjusted or if it was how it came from the factory. I forget how my OV-25's receptcale was oriented...

Personally, if i was a lineman, i'd aim the PC East so it'd come on a little before dusk and shut off earlier when the light is less needed. The light in front of my house is the opposite and the street is pretty dark before the light comes on yet it's usually just shutting off at 7AM when i catch the bus.
