Only one end has an electrode guard? weird Shocked seems kinda pointless...

What's an electrode guard?

prevents end blackening. .Philips uses it...so does SLI...however when they are EOL the blackening usually appears

Probably the Philips was phasing out the guards? The ends with the guards have a mercury capsule that is busted open by radio waves dueing manufacture.

The collectors in Europe said the same thing happened to their Philips T-8s in Europe, guards on one end only in recent lamps.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose if only one end of the lamp has the guard? T8 GE EcoLux lamps really need electrode guards. The blackening is terrible and the lamps always trip the EOL protection when they're on their way out.
