[Gone] This Traffic Light Still Has a Incandescent Amber!
Found this traffic that still has a incandescent amber light in York Region. York Region's traffic lights are 100% LED so I guess this one's amber light was missed during the LED retrofit/replacement in 2003-2006.

The lens looks like a General Signals polycarbonate one, I usually only see the 12" version of those.

I saw an intersection near my resort i stayed at that was fully 12-8-8. Very Happy All had LED reds but the green and ambers were incandescent.

Interesting, I know of some lights like that in the St Catharines area.

I take that it is cheaper to maintain with incandescent light bulb since they don't light up as often as the red/green bulbs. These LED refitting is pretty expensive to replace. So, why not that the both have about same life of usage with incandesent bulb that doesn't use very often.

Exactly what i was thinking. The yellow lamps aren't on as long so it's sort of a waste. One thing i noticed at an intersection here with incandescent yellows is that when the green side turns yellow, the red side blinks for a very quick second, probably due to the rush of electricity from like 10W to 100W. Oddly, I've never noticed the blink until recently though...

Hmm, but I wonder why only this one was left like this, all the other traffic lights in York Region have LED ambers.

I know Toronto still has a lot of lights with incandescent ambers though.

Hmm. Maybe they ran out of yellow modules and forgot to return. Here any incandescents missed out get spot-replaced as they fail.

I think Toronto is starting to spot replace their incandescent amber lights too, I've noticed a couple of them got replaced with LED recently.

I know an intersection installed with LED signals when they appeared in 02 that has had almost all of it's modules spot replaced. The original modules were the type with a bunch of little LEDs making up a cluster, the diodes were blowing out in patches in modules.

Update: the aluminium backboard on this signal has since been replaced with a plastic grey backed one with reflective trim on the front. The LED modules have also been replaced with new LEDs along with the incandescent amber. It looks like this now. The back also looks kinda weird since the signal housing back is still yellow.

There's a bunch of those in my area too although they're getting replaced with new Swarco or Dialight LEDs as they fail.
