Well there goes the M-400A and Welcome the LEOTEK GC1-40c
Well So long GE M-400A for I was not home to save you. I know Live on a road lit by LED streetlights. These are not the worst but I'll Miss My classic GE's. This is the Light in front of My Neighbors/My House.

They replaced a 250 watt HPS with this 93 watt LED, I'm going to see how different it is tonight.

I have just noticed Holyoke Gas & Electric is reusing the PC's from the exsisting fixtures! Shocked That has to be the dumbest thing ever since some of the fixtures that they removed had bad PC's and we now have Brand New LED streetlights that don't even work.
streetlight98   [Mar 03, 2012 at 02:26 AM]
Dayburning killed them?

Rolling Eyes Spent all the money on $$$ LED fixtures

Don't have enough for new PCs.
Antstar85   [Mar 03, 2012 at 10:07 AM]
These were all failed off controls and they seemed to never of checked to make sure the fixtures work.

The LED units installed here last year for COP17 have only had 1 failure so far, one section of 1 unit will start dim, and stay that way all night. I would guess the slow start circuitry has a shorted capacitor for that ballast driving about 2/3 of the array. The rest starts normally, and runs up to brilliant light, while this section is still just in start up, at around 1/4 output.
mercuryvaporrocks   [Mar 03, 2012 at 11:26 AM]
I bet some of the pc's they're using aren't even compatible with LED fixtures.
streetlight98   [Mar 03, 2012 at 01:55 PM]
Why would they be uncompatible with LED fixtures?
HPSM250R2   [Mar 03, 2012 at 03:07 PM]
Well DTL, Sun-Tech, and Ripley have a photocontrol that is made for LED luminaires. I don't know if you HAVE to use the special LED photocontrol, but that could have something to do with the LED streetlights failing.
gramirez2012   [Mar 03, 2012 at 03:55 PM]
Some photocontrol manufacturers specifically state that their standard controls are not compatible with LED's.
SeanB~1   [Mar 04, 2012 at 12:06 PM]
AFAIK there are special photocells that detect a cycling lamp by the current consumption and switch off for the rest of the night after it cycles a few times. LED power draw makes the controller think the light is not connected, as the power draw is so low, so it switches off the light after a few minutes each night.
Antstar85   [Mar 25, 2012 at 04:07 PM]
HG&E has now begun to replace all the photocells in all the LED streetlights with DTL's LED photocell. I guess after many complaints about the lights going out, they decided to put the correct photocell in.
gailgrove   [Mar 25, 2012 at 04:09 PM]
It seems so stupid the they wouldn't of, and they claim the don't need any service for 20 years. Rolling Eyes
Antstar85   [Mar 25, 2012 at 04:12 PM]
Well the thing that was dumb about what they were doing is that they were using the photocells over from the exsisting HPS fixture and some were old and the LED light would only work a couple of nights before they went out. I easily called out a dozen lights within the first week.
streetlight98   [Mar 25, 2012 at 04:57 PM]
In order for LEDs to truely even have a shot a 20 yrs maintenance-free, relay systems would have to be used becuase even if the fixture itself doesn't need serviceing, the PC will still only last a fraction of 20 years. with relay systems you just have to change one PC from a locked case on the ground.
gailgrove   [Mar 25, 2012 at 08:49 PM]
Actually the LED PCs are rated for 20 years. I doubt they would last that long however...
Antstar85   [Apr 13, 2012 at 12:08 AM]
This light just got a FP OLC LED Photocell which is colored green and a "NEMA Tag" that says "93 LED". Why they just didn't do this in the first place is beyond me. Rolling Eyes
streetlight98   [Apr 13, 2012 at 01:36 AM]
Yeah NEMA should come out with an official LED tag color.
