My Tapered Elliptical arm. 10 feet I think. Pretty big. Not all that heavy though. xD I am not sure why this fell off the pole. Or did it fall off the pole? I can't wait to put this up tomorrow and mount a light on it. How does it look? Anyone know the brand? I could guess GE but there isn't any brand name on it... Keywords: Gear

Make sure you use the proper sized washers with your through bolt, or the bolt will start digging into the wood and cause the arm to sag.

A thru-bolt is basically a huge screw with a nut on the end. You drill a hole through the pole and install the bolt. If you have a pair of binoculars, look closely at how the thru-bolts are attatched in your area.

Yeah but the other end will start to dig in to the wood if you don't use a big enough washer. Wink

Here big square washers are used, the arm side shouldnt have a washer so you can lift it on and off of the bolt head easily.

The big square ones are used here too. Some of the truss arms here have two thru-bolts. Shocked

Sometimes the utility will get lazy and only use one bolt on a arm and instead will strap the bottom on using band-it. Shocked

I've seen the before as well, it doesn't really bother me but this does, it is an arm held on by nothing but band-it. Shocked

On RIDOT's aluminum truss poles, the arms are attatched to the pole with these shown below:

You sure it fell off? Did it have a damaged fixture? If the fixture was not damaged, then it did not fall off you know.....

Looks like a Shakespeare arm just like the one I have in my basement, plus the ones used in my area on fiberglass poles!

The fixture WAS damaged. The slipfitter was broken, the hinge broke off, and the lamp's outer envelope was broken. Exposing the arctube.

okay then it fell!!! But in some cases in some electrical company, when they do a pole renewal, sometimes they would leave the whole setup on the ground next to the poles.....other places will tape it to the pole...and all the sorts...

Here, they install the new pole and leave the old pole with everything on it. Then later, the first things transfered are the primary lines, 240v line, and street light. Then the phone lines, etc are transfered.

Here the primarys get transferred over and the pole gets chopped off. Soon the secondary are transferred over and the streetlight contractor will move the light over, they always leave the through bolt in the old pole and put in a new one. The cable and phone lines get transferred over within the next two year and then the pole stub will be removed.

Here the old pole is cut short and also cut from the ground. The old pole is then bolted to the new pole with brackets. I'll have to get a pic showing it if i can...
