how come there are two or more traffic signals at one intersection ?

i believe that's called "Redundency" we have something similar in the US....most of the times there are not two poles for the same direction but ocasionally the signal on the opposite of the road faces us.

Yeah the MTO needs at least two lights per direction and usually one on the right and another on the left for redundancy. Lots more on this in the OTM but it's a pretty long read.

These were replaced together with Plumberized fortrans about a year ago.
