GE Form 175 Remote Ballast
This is like the GE Form 79CR but a remote ballasted MV with a side mount slip fitter. This lamp originally used a 175 watt MV lamp (probably where the "Form 175" came from.) The refractor is designed to limit side light and throw light mainly towards the street. Back in the 50s and 60s I saw these refractors used both in MV and incandescent service. The socket mounts horizontally just below the slip fitter.

I have one, that's actually called a GE Form 175 Remote Ballast...its basically a lower wattage version of GE Form 400 Clamshell!!!! It's actually designed for 100 or 175 watt MV....the OV-10 is the competeter to this fixture! I also have the internal ballast version which is called Form 175 Power Pack

Jace, thanks. So the side mount MV with the Form 79cr refractor was the Form 175. I just went off the original form chart. I'll change the listing. I'll pass on the free seagull though. Thanks anyway for that!

i had Never seen one of these in person until relatively recently......there's TWO lurking on a private property somewhere along Sylvania ave in the extreme northern parts of Fort Worth.

I have yet to see a form 175 in use. Joe Maurath Jr had a Form 175 PowerPak though (and possibly one of these too). The only clamshells I've seen in use are Form 400, OV-10IB (integral ballast) and OV-20.
