Beautiful!

An interesting frame construction Exclamation
gmercury2000   [Nov 09, 2016 at 01:47 PM]
It was part of Sylvanias rough service lamps. I have a post Banner lamp with the same frame. Idk if they made separate lamps w/o this frame or this was something that was also available.

Wow! Hell of a lamp right there! Smile Look at those beefy electrodes!

Nice! I have a post Banner 175w Sylvania clear merc that has the same girder frame. Mine's used but it still looks like it has a good number of hours left.

Yeah my 1967 400W /C has the girder frame. Probably the best-designed HID lamps ever made! Of course the best-quality award goes to those Westy Lifeguards though. Cool I think the Bonuslines were pretty good too but they sure were short lived. Westy kept the ball rolling for a good long while.

I'll eventually build a display for my 400w BT lamps, I've got at least one of each of the big 3 in NOS condition. Would be nice to have a clear GE in 400 but I'll settle for the /C. There's a nice clear NOS GE on the bay but the seller is downright insane as he's asking $245 for it. Lol of course if anyone is looking to trade a NOS Banner for a NOS Bonusline I could hook them up. Hey one can dream, right? Lol

Very nice lamp!!
streetlight98   [Nov 10, 2016 at 09:03 PM]
$245 is just funny. Even $24.5 pushing it IMO, though he'd probably still sell it pretty quick.

I'm trying to get a pair of M-250R2s from a local seller on Craigslist (they're RIDOT lights, which is why I want them) but the guy is a real PITA to get ahold of. I messaged him asking for a picture and he said he'd "take one tomorrow" and a week later no reply and won't answer my messages. So I sent him a new messassage under a new email and fake name and he replied with his availability (anytime after 4PM any day of the week) and said to reply when I'm coming and he'd send me his address. Well still waiting on the address. Rolling Eyes The lights are decently priced. $30 each. I'm getting two for $60. My first message I offered 2 for $50 and he accepted, but I thought maybe he had second thoughts and that's why he started ignoring my other messages. apparently that wasn't it though. I wish the damn guy would make more of a communication effort though. Gee whiz...

Idk, I've seen the same lamp on there for at least 2 years now. He did come down though, was asking closer to $300 originally. I can't help but laugh though.
joe_347V   [Nov 12, 2016 at 04:36 AM]
Yeah $245 is too much for a lamp IMO. $50 might be pushing it but I think he'll get at least one buyer.
gmercury2000   [Nov 12, 2016 at 06:38 PM]
I might offer him about $50. I've seen some go for around that. Could care less if he accepts but would be funny.
joe_347V   [Nov 14, 2016 at 12:27 AM]
If the lamp was on eBay for quite a while I could see him accepting a $50 offer.
gmercury2000   [Nov 16, 2016 at 11:49 PM]
Well it's a no go, seller wouldn't take it. Oh well.
streetlight98   [Nov 17, 2016 at 02:46 AM]
He wouldn't accept $50? Greedy ba$tard. Laughing Rolling Eyes
gmercury2000   [Nov 17, 2016 at 08:48 PM]
Lol I know right. I'll just watch it to see how much longer it sits there.
streetlight98   [Nov 17, 2016 at 09:45 PM]
Yeah eventually the guy is going to get sick of waiting around. I'm sure the guy didn't pay much for the lamp. Probably a $5 flea market find or maybe he even got it free. Some people are just thickheaded and think they can strike rich off something worth nothing. It may be worth more than $5 to us lighting people, but antique light bulbs are not like antique cars. Antique cars have a lot more value because there's a lot of people out there who like antique cars. In comparison, there's relatively few people into lighting so antique light bulbs and light in general are not worth any more than modern bulbs. No matter what it is, IMO it's only as good as is original value less depreciation. If it's NOS, then the full original cost of the lamp (not taking inflation into account...).

I don't pay big on my stuff lol. Sure I miss out on a lot of nice things, but by feeding into the insane prices, we're telling people that it's OK to rip us off. If we don't buy expensive vintage lighting stuff then there won't be any expensive vintage lighting stuff. At least IMO... I feel the same way about college. I'm going to community college for two semesters to get a certificate (I want to be a lineman; my certificate is called Energy Utility Technology). I see people go to these expensive colleges and take out all crazy loans. The only thing I will ever take a loan out for is a house, and possibly a vehicle (and similarly-priced "necessities"). People wonder why college is so expensive. Well if no one took out student loans and only went to colleges they could actually afford, then these rip-off colleges would be forced to reduce their prices or go out of business. By taking out loans, we're feeding into their high prices. They talk high school seniors into these risky loans that the student will never be able to pay, but the school doesn't care because they'll get their money and that's all they care about. Colleges' practices are despicable. Rolling Eyes Mad

Yeah, eventually he's gonna regret not taking a $50 offer if it dosen't sell for a bit. I also have the feeling he didn't pay a lot for the lamp. While I do pay a little bit more for stuff that's old or rare if it's NOS I agree with Mike. I sometimes find it funny to see some overpriced item at the local Restore stick around for years...if it was cheaper I'd probably would have ended up buying it lol.

Love those girder framed lamps! BTW, as for that GE Bonusline lamp, I remember when it was listed for almost $400. I think it's been up there for nearly couple years. lol he can keep it until the end of time! Meanwhile, other vintage lamps come and go for less than $50, haha,.
