Incandescent vs. LED
LED Durasig 12-8-8 signal compared with a worn out incnadescent CGE 8-8-8. The CGE has a early poly lens which hasn't aged well over the years. One of the disadvantages of poly signal lenses is that they get really dull over the years. The reflector could probably use a good clean too.

Note the emerald green light compared to the LED, early poly lenses were true green which gave a emerald green light compared to the bluish green found in later poly lenses and glass lenses. LEDs tend to range from a bluish green to turquoise.

Nice comparison! Personally I don't like the blueish green lens that are used here now Confused Some intersections are using this lighter green. I would rather see the city retrofit the Green lens with those instead

I have seen Incandescent signals that have Brown tinges in them or the green is barely visible because it gets really dirty. Is it possible for the Incandescent bulb to overheat causing burns on the lens?

There are some older LED modules here that are a true green light, both the exposed LED modules and the incandescent look-alike ones, but all the newer ones are a bluish green light. I don't really mind the bluish green light but would prefer a more true green.

Thanks! Yeah, some LED green lights look way to blue for my liking. The one you linked in the Streetview has a pretty good colour, pretty close to a glass lensed incnadescent.

Yeah the poly lenses will brown and eventually crack if the light stays on for too long, I guess a lot of the remaining incandescent lights haven't been cleaned recently too.

Wow I came through here over the weekend and a lot of the green sections of the 8-8-8's are now LED! It also appears Alliston no longer has any Incandescent replacement bulbs anymore for both traffic and pedestrian signals. They are starting to spot replace and disconnect the bottom walk sections of the pedestrian signals and installing the hand/walk combination on the top section

Oof, I figured they didn't have any replacement incandescent bulbs left since I've noticed them slowly replacing failed incandescent lamps with LED. Too bad about the pedestrian lights too. I wish the LED ones had the solid walking man like the incandescent lenses but I don't think I've seen a LED with a solid Canadian walking man.

I guess eventually my collection will be the only signals that still have "incandescent lamps" in them. Technically I switched mine to LED too but using LED filament lamps that look a lot more incandescent compared to your average LED insert lol.

Would have been more tolerable if they would use both sections for hand and walking man. Windsor is the only city I see the bottom being used for solely walking man and hand for top section

It doesn't seem popular ever since countdown timers became a thing. lol.

You have spare incandescent inserts for your signal?

Well each and every other 5 or less year old signal except 2 have been replaced with new LED grey backed 12-12-12 signals and new LED pedestrian countdowns. The one CGE signal remaining is to the right of this picture

That's a big shame, I thought they were gonna keep the CGEs in use for a few more years as they seemed to have recently LEDized them...at least the red and green lights.
