These fixtures are indeed made by Holophane. They are also present on I-95 where it runs through Westchester County, just north of the Bronx near Larchmont and Mamaroneck. They're mounted on the same style poles on the median so as to light both sides of the roadway.

Some of those fixtures are used on highmasts in my area on I-95....the older style ones had a cylinder shaped top instead of the boxy design....

There are similar fixtures in Ontario. I've also seen highmasts that was just a large cylinder and another where the ballasts were mounted off to the side.

The first batch of these lights were installed on the stretch of the I-190 from just north of Niagara Street to exit 9 back around 1985.

I have seen those setup in few areas in NY, some in Massachusetts and finally some short groups in New Jersey!

never seen this pole setup anywhere, but alabama has alot of these style highmasts.
joe_347V   [Dec 01, 2010 at 02:03 AM]
Yeah I've only seen this pole setup on I-190 but the highmasts are really common in Ontario.

BTW, I have a more recent and better pic here.
GullWhiz   [Dec 01, 2010 at 02:23 PM]
I will post a pic of the one I found in NJ....

FYI, these lights and the crook arms are being replaced with dual pipe mounts and GE LED fixtures. There is one stretch remaining to be done then I think the NYSDOT is going to concentrate on the exits.

Holophane also made the brackets, they where called the Median Mount Probeam

Interesting, also it's a shame these are probably gone now.
