Mississauga still has some 8-8-8s left in use but they've been converted to LED using GE RX-11 (AKA GELcore) modules. It looks like this one's days might be numbered too as it's partner across the street was removed (see below) sometime between last summer and this april. [Gone] Old CGE 8-8-8

Here's an old CGE 8-8-8 (with glass GE lenses, like mine) still in use in Niagara Falls as of early April.

The 8-8-8 traffic lights have become a rare find nowadays as Toronto removed the last 8-8-8 in early February of this year. Mississauga still has some 8-8-8s left in use but they've been converted to LED using GE RX-11 (AKA GELcore) modules.

It looks like this one's days might be numbered too as it's partner across the street was removed (see below) sometime between last summer and this april.

I also only know of a few 8-8-8's remaining

Yeah I know of a few left in Mississauga and I think one in Brampton. I think they're replacing them since a 12" red is more visible and getting rid of 8-8-8 heads means one less type of signal head to stock.

I know of around 6 left as of now in Brampton. The last one around BCC was replaced in march, they actually moved the arm down to make it less awkward looking.

Hmm, I didn't know it was gone. Over here in York Region we got rid of 8-8-8s starting in 2003 when the first wave of LED retrofits began.

I have never seen a 8-8-8 in York Region, Except im not sure about Markham because im almost never there. I can get a picture of a 8-8-8 on Dixie Road

Markham used to have 8-8-8s on the left hand side back in incandescent days but they were removed and scrapped in 2003-2006 by 12-8-8 LED poly signals.

Surprisingly Toronto has a 8-8-8-8 signal in use and I'm not talking about the streetcar ones.

you can make the signal in any arragement you want. all new signals are individual sections bolted together inside. older 50s and before signals were single piece sometimes though. you could put twenty 8" sections together if you want.

Yeah with most modern signals, you can pretty much stack them however you want as the sections are identical and are designed to be coupled with one another.

The earliest signals from the 20s and 30s were cast in one piece and had to be ordered in 1,2,3, or 4 section units.
Later signals from the 40s and later were sectional but they were tied together but endplates and tie rods(the sections had open tops and bottoms).

The current signals (late 50s and later) have the endplate cast as part of the section body which bolt together.

Update: these have since been replaced with reflective backplated Fortran 12-8-8s.
