Yay! I can comment! Nice OVM!
Form109   [Jul 27, 2011 at 03:01 AM]
OVM's look good in MV and HPS...haven't seen any MH ones but im sure they are out there.
tpirman1982   [Jul 28, 2011 at 12:08 PM]
There are no OVMs in Metal Halide. They're outdated luminaires. Maybe someone here or LG who has one could cheat by putting in a Metal Halide ballast and bulb in it. lol
gailgrove   [Jul 28, 2011 at 06:24 PM]
What exactly does that mean? I'm sure they came in MH which has been around since the late 70's. Confused
Form109   [Jul 28, 2011 at 06:28 PM]
@Tpirman1982 - You can't be that sure there's no OVM's in MH just because you haven't seen any...Outdated?...Hardly...and i think not. Razz
streetlight98   [Jul 28, 2011 at 08:33 PM]
The 1977 GE catalog has MH listed. Back then, it was only 400 and 1000w MH. MH wasn't common because the oldest design wasn't anymore effecient than MV

Form109, the OVM was introduced in the mid 1980s.
According to Wikipedia... replaced the L250, predecessor to the OVD.
streetlight98   [Jul 29, 2011 at 01:34 PM]
Yep, Wikipedia is right. That means this may have been avaliable in 250 watts MH as well. Cooper doesn't offer 175w MH on their medium fixtures.
Form109   [Jul 29, 2011 at 03:39 PM]
@Tpirman1982 Wikipedia is right on some things...it can be edited by anybody and in the past there were alot of Inaccuracies so you can't always be sure Wikipedia is 100 Precent Correct.
tpirman1982   [Jul 29, 2011 at 03:56 PM]
streetlight98, the Cooper OVX offers 50-400 watts.
GullWhiz   [Jul 29, 2011 at 05:55 PM]
Yes OVM did come out MH in the later 90s. OVM were still available in the 90s. The OVS was discontinued first, but the OVM was still in production longer.
tpirman1982   [Jul 29, 2011 at 05:59 PM]
I never saw any MH versions of OVMs.
GullWhiz   [Jul 29, 2011 at 06:01 PM]
Just because you never seen them does not mean it does not exist, I have never seen you take pictures of streetlights OUTSIDE of Massachuttes...there are a lot of other lights that are not in Massachuttes because there are different electrical companies that have preferred source, brands and stuff...

I myself NEVER saw a 35 watt HPS Cobrahead...does that mean they don't exist?
tpirman1982   [Jul 29, 2011 at 06:18 PM]
Well, I'ev never been outside Massachusetts before. It's hard to travel outside of Massachusetts on account of money for air fare, etc.
A_lights   [Jul 29, 2011 at 07:05 PM]
@Jace: yeah Ive seen a GE NEMA Bucket in 35W HPS Before, but never that low of a wattage in a corbra, lowest I've seen in a cobra is 50W HPS which is DIM!
Here we have some 175W MH OVX's with DX MVs In some
streetlight98   [Jul 29, 2011 at 07:21 PM]
"streetlight98, the Cooper OVX offers 50-400 watts."
The OVX is a small size lume. Wink
I don't think a 35w HPS on a road would light anything on the road. Laughing
TiCoune66   [Jul 29, 2011 at 08:13 PM]
Yup, there exists ton of things that we've not seen before!

A given lighting setup stays hypothetical as long as nobody saw one in service. Although some setups can be considered impossible (like a 1000W Cooper OVZ LOL).

A good example is the (scarce) /X mercury vapour lamp. Only a few collectors such as Joe Maurath have the chance to own one. I've never heard of the 400W model, but it probably exists. There's maybe one of these collecting dust somewhere in North America, waiting for a collector!
gailgrove   [Jul 29, 2011 at 08:17 PM]
Well even a 1KW OVZ is possible, a cram (BT37) 1KW lamp would fit in the OVZ and then the ballast could be mounted remotely or it might even fit!
streetlight98   [Jul 30, 2011 at 01:50 AM]
I think he meant as a factory order. There are some special requests that can't be made. Cooper may be willing to do that, but I know GE refuses to do certain things.
