HPS comparing the effects of color rendering
I just recently got a few new lamps including a HPS Deluxe which the order code in this case would be LU70/DX/MED/ECO

That means this HPS (from the right side picture) is a GE 70 watt Deluxe with a medium base and low mercury

One of the differences from my own eyes, is I observed the Deluxe version has a thicker arctube. Also it does make better color rendering than the regular HPS...almost like an incandescent...but warmer

The one on the right is a Sylvania made off brand regular HPS

Why not upload a pic of the deluxe lamp? The lamp itself.

Nicely Done Comparison. Smile

I would like to know more information about the lamps, and what was done or added to make a better color rendering

I guess higher arc load/pressure/temperature operation...
GullWhiz   [Jan 30, 2010 at 12:42 PM]
even in same ballast? the difference I saw was the arctube was kinda thicker and a bit shorter

What other ballast? They are intended as light improvement retrofits for traditional HPS, so should work on the same gear...
This lead, indeed, to shorter arctube then the classic, as higher pressure yield higher voltage drop per unit lenght, so for the same (compatibility) arc voltage and current this mean shorter tube with higher arc load (more watts per unity of arc length)
And when higher pressure is necessary, the working temperature has to be increased, as the pressure correspond to saturated vapor pressure of the lamp fill.

This is what it looks like with one of those lamps

Interesting comparison.
