Tungsten halogen lamp with only 1000Hrs instead of 2000Hrs? I bet this lamp is overdriven to produce a whiter light. Halogen lamps for entertainment and projection lighting have a much whiter light then regular halogen lamps because they are much overdriven and therefore have a shorter life then incandescents (typically 750Hrs).

Yes, the higher efficiency of the Halogen Supersaver is achieved simply by reducing the life from 3000 hrs (our 120v full wattage halogens are 3000 hrs) to 1000 hrs. We also have the Philips Halogena Energy Saver, the higgher efficiency and 3000 hour rating is achieved with HIR technology.

You can see the packaging is addressing exactly the things people hate in CFL's. This lamp is made in the USA, not China; has a familiar shape, is fully dimmable, good colour, and no mercury. I hope these meet the minimum efficiency guidelines so they won't be banned - I have no problem with the gov'ment getting rid of standard incandescents if they offer these as a substitute.

Yes they meet the 2012-2014 minimum standard but not the 2020 standard.

Most of the people in Israel agreed to gave up their dimmers in order to use CFL lamps and it is therfore why regular dimmers for filament lamps have declines in popularity in Israel and is currently doesn't producted or imported by any company in Israel.
The color of CFL is still good with CRI of 85%.
Mercury free indication is redundant for halogen lamps since CFLs contain less mercury then the mercury that will producted by your power plant with halogen retrofits lamps.
HIR technology is looks like of using infrared coating (IRC). IRC is used ONLY in 12V halogens cpasules and therfore the Halogena Energy Savers contains these lamps using a wattage loss 120V-12V transformers.
In Israel Halogen retrofits doesn't enjoyed any popularity except minimal in commercial applications (Submerged ceiling fixtures for example) because they was MUCH more expensive (More then 100 NIS to european Philips Halogena BT shape) then the modren self ballasted CFLs. The electric company of Israel recommends people to replace incandescents only with CFL and LED retrofits. The same thing is with the halogens.

HIR technology can also be done on straight 120v mains because 120v filaments are nearly half the length of 230v filaments.
