Most likely it MAY me a merc.....just thinking because it does not have a photocell socket at all...not even a bump.....that was an option in older streetlights....although some companies had left a bump like the AE and the Line Materials while the GE and Westinghouse kept the top smooth.....free of any "bump" for the spot for the photocell....

I used to have hard time telling if it was OV-15 or OV-25...but the easy trick is the refractor shape AND the OV-25 has a sharper angle
Form109   [Feb 18, 2010 at 02:25 AM]
it Could Be Possibly....i know alot of the Older Cobraheads in Gadsden are HPS...i know the OV-25 and OV-15 Tudors are HPS For sure...i saw a Picture of Gadsden at night..and a Stretch of OV-25's on this Road..but Further down were showing in HPS...but these could also be MH..i wouldnt doubt it...the city does use MH.

Incidentally, that is not a 15' truss arm. More like a six or eight footer.
chapman84   [Feb 18, 2010 at 03:31 AM]
I've seen HPS versions of these on the PA Turnpike right by the Monroeville exit.
Form109   [Feb 18, 2010 at 03:56 AM]
Cool that HPS Versions exist today...i mean...not cool like MV...but cool that they are Still Up...and Nimo...whats the Easiest Way to Tell the Lenght of the Arm?
gailgrove   [Feb 18, 2010 at 09:35 PM]
The average fixture is about two feet long, I then try to picture it again and again along the arm and get the length.
GullWhiz   [Feb 19, 2010 at 01:52 AM]
It does look 8 footer to me right there.....it closely resembles the size of our local utility pole 10 foot truss arms in my area...and this Silverliner right there is 3 feet long to be exact!
gailgrove   [Feb 19, 2010 at 08:23 PM]
I agree, its 8 Ft.
joe_347V   [Feb 20, 2010 at 02:12 AM]
I also agree with the above it looks like it's 8ft too. This arm pictured look to be around the same length as the 8 foot aluminum taper e arms commonly used here.

Sorry Jace...This Silverliner is Sodium Infected! Shocked
TiCoune66   [Jun 25, 2010 at 04:09 AM]
I personally don't consider the HPS conversion to be a "disease" anymore. LED streetlights ARE the disease!
Form109   [Jun 25, 2010 at 07:27 AM]
True...HPS Conversions from MV aren't Bad...i just wish more old Fixtures could be converted than Scrapped...given the utility sometimes that is less Time or Cost Effective than simply swapping Fixtures.
mercuryvaporrocks   [Jun 25, 2010 at 01:24 PM]
Or they could also use HPS retrofit lamps that way they don't have to remove the ballast and not waste a good fixture.
Form109   [Jun 25, 2010 at 04:03 PM]
HPS retrofit lamps have much shorter Life Span's though...which is Unfortunate....LED's aren't common at all Here Vince...iv'e seen only a Few in Texas.
Silverliner14B   [Jun 25, 2010 at 06:57 PM]
PG&E in northern California converted some of their mercury fixtures to HPS back in the early 80s. Santa Cruz, where I used to live, has them all over the Westside area.
Form109   [Jun 26, 2010 at 01:00 AM]
Got any Pictures of those?
joe_347V   [Jun 26, 2010 at 01:06 AM]
I much rather they convert the fixture over to HPS rather than scrapping the fixture but most fixtures here were scrapped aside from a few.
Form109   [Jun 26, 2010 at 10:38 PM]
Absolutely no Conversion's here...everything Broken,Old even Working is Replaced by a New Fixture.
mercuryvaporrocks   [Jun 27, 2010 at 01:31 AM]
I never see older streetlights in my area converted either, thousands of them were discarded when the power companies did those upgrades within the last 5 years requested by many municipalities. I saw some Westinghouse OV-25 and Westinghouse OV-35s converted to HPS in Pittsburgh but they were replaced anyway.
Form109   [Jun 27, 2010 at 09:22 AM]
thats Typical of the Throw Away Attitude in Society Today....its Terrible....and its not just streetlights either....America is just Wasteful...hate to say it...but we need some improvement Big time.
