Testing Some Mainlighters
|
I figured my GE turret could use some vintage GE lamps so I grabbed some Mainlighters when I was Restore recently. They're not exactly from when the fixture was made (I think they're from the 1970s) but they're still vintage so it matches the light a lot better than the modern Sylvania /CWPs I had in it earlier. I also like the vintage cool white more than the muddy looking modern cool white lamps and the greenish looking 34w cool white lamps (not that I would run 34w lamps in this light O_o)
One of the lamps had a missing insulator and a bend pin that I fixed with a cardboard washer and some crazy glue. Not exactly the best fix lol but since this light is a turret lume, the pin isn't stressed during lamp insertion/removal.

From the thumbnail these look like /C50! Usually cameras register /CW as greenish or brownish.
I've heard daylight has changed a lot though, although here again I think it went virtually unchanged until EPACT, at least in 4ft and 8ft versions. I have yet to obtain any old-school daylight lamps though, my only ones are a Philips FC8T9/DX and some "Western Family" (Feit) 13w 6500K spiral CFLs.
