Half piper from '47, thanks Dimbulb!
Got this when I visited Henry the other day. It was nice of him to give me some nice stuff in a trade, he got some nice vintage fluorescent tubes from me. One ballast was bad as you can see in the other pics but I have since taken care of it. The end plates seem to be made of durable cast aluminum, unlike the more fragile cast zinc end plates found on many art-deco era fluorescent fixtures.

Nice fixture, do you plan to install it...somewhere?
Silverliner14B   [Jan 06, 2010 at 01:58 AM]
Yes it is going up in the garage, I need more light in there and this thing is bright with 4 lamps!

Hey, looking at your floor lamp base design.....how thick is it? It looks stamped to me?
Silverliner14B   [Jan 06, 2010 at 04:59 PM]
It's cast steel and pretty heavy, the ballast is part of the weight though. Not sure on the thickness, maybe 1/8 of an inch.
FGS   [Jan 06, 2010 at 08:55 PM]
That's still thicker than the modern floor lamps. A lot thicker!
Silverliner14B   [Jan 07, 2010 at 02:24 AM]
Yup, its pretty heavy!

Nice fixtures, I like how the older fluorescent fixutres were a lot more ornate in their design. I guess the half piper is also pretty heavy too.
Silverliner14B   [Jan 07, 2010 at 06:38 AM]
Yes it is very heavy! Contains two heavy preheat ballasts.
