Destructive!
What happens when you run a tube with the orange flash for a few seconds, let it cool down for 30 seconds then light the tube again? Thermal shock!

Can you see the missing piece of glass? 5 seconds after it began swirling (again) with the orange glow, that piece flew to the other side of the tube! However this tube had an unusual EOL. GEs normally have much stronger stems. The other F20T12/CW I killed a while ago was tougher to finish off LOL.

i didn't have to let mine cool off,i just ran it on DC and sure enough one end got hotter than the other and cracked.

another time i fired a 13 Watt PL-L lamp on a 70 Watt HPS Ballast....needless to say the lamp didn't last long......bwhahahahaha!

I actually didn't turn it off purposely, for some reason the tube kept tripping the EOL protection of the ballast for a while LOL.

Next victim: A Sylvania F20T12/D! XD

the other time i killed a lamp was running a Spent F40T12 with both electrodes broken off a VHO Ballast, the VHO Ballast fired it instantly and both ends got orange quick and both ends cracked and leaked, then the tube went out.

As i see this, i would have to make some ballast capable of doing these effects... Very Happy Here all ballasts use soe sort of protection mechanism, that usually prevent this (starter/reignition capability in the magnetic preheat, fusing lamp filament in cheepe electronic or normal EOL on better electronic)...

I noticed the GE T8 Ecolux lamps in my 2X F17 wrap would always trip the EOL protection. They'd blink violently and turn purple at one end and then both lamps would go out. If you flipped the bad lamp, it'd simply not light (though the good lamp would light normally, since the lamps are parallel). The T8s didn't last long, since the light was frequently switched, another reason the preheater was installed, though the RS would give a longer lifespan when frequently switched IMO. I just can't stand the flicker of the tubes until they warm up. I'll have to shock the lamps with an electronic RS ballast to stop the flickering lol.
