A tall 5 light traffic light!
This is the first time I have ever seen in State of MD having a setup with a 5 straight style traffic light. I only see dog house style (which is also in the picture).....this is the first time I have found one in my own state!

I have noticed more OVH are being used as well as GE and OVX used in the State of MD....

This is in Delmarva Power territory!

Inline 5 can be used on pole mounts but not recommended for overhead. I like how they set up the video detection here.

When I lived in Illinois for 3 years.....youll see inline 5s all over...even overheads....there was ZERO dog house styles there....not even ONE!!!!
basilicon89   [Mar 14, 2011 at 01:38 AM]
how many were hit by trucks???
GullWhiz   [Mar 14, 2011 at 01:51 AM]
Never saw one hit.....LOL
Form109   [Mar 23, 2011 at 09:32 PM]
so the whole signals at this intersection are mounted on this one pole?
GullWhiz   [Mar 24, 2011 at 03:25 PM]
Pretty much!

Smart Thinking!! One foundation (assuming there are no pedestrian displays here), and run all the lines through the mast. No cuts in the pavement for inductance loops either. Very economical design here

Oh another common installation style in MD where I live...mostly found in Howard County area is Median installations...instead of every corners....there are on the medians...ill try to find good setup to take a pic of..but one of the example is here

Its a compact setup, although I don't like it, what happens if a truck takes out the ONE pole, suddenly it becomes uncontrolled intersection Rolling Eyes
GullWhiz   [Mar 24, 2011 at 09:32 PM]
Police will take over.....I mean even with more than one poles...if one knocks one down will ruin the whole setup anyway and police and the traffic light workers will STILL be involved!

You guys make valid points. It's like those genius engineers that put major splice points in crosswalk signal poles. When those are knocked down it'll darken half the intersection. Crosswalk signals are always the first to get hit.

Inline 5 is better, green to yellows are good too. I like Iceland traffic set-ups.

inline five is bad for overhead since with the doghouse style the heads are clustered together so there's not as much strain. On pole top/side mounts though i prefer in-line signals. To be honest, I like the four section RYG Y/G arrow bi-color arrow signals we use in RI.

I like the "Waterloo special" 4 section signals. (12-8-8-12) They're the same as the RI left turn lights except the green left turn arrow flashes rapidly. Sorta like the Ontario flashing green signal.
